What You Will Do** As a scientist in the Chemical Diagnostics and Engineering group (C-CDE), you will be responsible for supporting the development and application of theory/modeling/simulation frameworks and experimental platforms across several scientific disciplines to address a wide range of material property research elements for programs within the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA). You will need to be able to apply the scientific method to address technical problems, develop novel test solutions and analyze data. This position is a fully functioning professional with established expertise in one or more of the scientific disciplines described below. The position will require direct interface with sponsors and program managers and the development of novel ideas, concepts, solutions, and capabilities. The incumbent will undertake proposal writing, develop and deliver reports. **What You Need** **Minimum Job Requirements:** + Demonstrated ability to team up with specialists to plan experiments, analyze data, infer results, and develop concepts for submitting successful proposals. + Experience in conducting experiments in high energy density facilities such as Z, NIF or other larger facilities. + Experience with materials fabrication techniques such as additive manufacturing + Significant knowledge in high temperature testing and material characterization + Familiarity with pulsed power equipment, nuclear or plasma physics, diagnostic development and data acquisition. + Demonstrated record of technical proficiency and leadership, as represented by publications, reports, presentations, proposals, and intellectual property disclosures + Experience performing laboratory equipment or instrument specification, procurement, assembly, modification, and maintenance. + Must be able to obtain a Q Clearance (this generally means that the candidate must be a US citizen) **Education/Experience:** Requires a Bachelor's degree in a STEM field from an accredited college or university and 4 years of related experience, typically with post-doctoral research experience at a university or national lab or equivalent experience directly related to the occupation. **Desired Qualifications:** + Experience in the supervision and mentoring of technical personnel such as technicians, students, and post-docs + Experience working effectively under pressure in a rapidly changing environment both as a member of a team and as an individual + Ability to collaborate with diverse and multidisciplinary scientific research teams + Computational experience + Knowledge of and experience with GIT, LabView, and Matlab, + Computer Skills and Proficient in programming (Python, Fortran, and C++) and Multiphysics codes + Ph.D. in Physics, Engineering, or Materials Science **Work Location:** This position will be physically located in Los Alamos, NM. **Position commitment:** Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. C-CDE is a R D organization focused on resolving national security-related issues in nuclear stockpile stewardship, applied and basic energy sciences, threat reduction, public health, and the environment. The group's core approach involves the integrated development and application of technologies utilizing underlying scientific expertise in Analytical Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry, Materials Science, Polymers, Bioscience, Chemical Process Development, and Chemical Engineering. The highly interdisciplinary nature of this group requires scientists, engineers, and technicians who can seamlessly operate within, and transition between, traditional academic disciplines. The successful applicant will work both collaboratively and independently on multiple projects. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad. *Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances.
