This role is critical in ensuring our filtration media and systems meet stringent performance, safety, and regulatory standards while addressing emerging contaminants and customer needs. Key Responsibilities: Develop and optimize filtration media, including activated carbon, ion exchange resins, and advanced composites, for targeted contaminant removal. Design filters in various geometries (granular, block, pleated, compressed, and extruded) to balance flow rate, pressure drop, and capacity. Design and execute laboratory experiments to evaluate filter performance metrics such as capacity, flow rate, pressure drop, and contaminant reduction. Conduct analytical testing using instruments such as ICP-MS, UV-Vis, TOC analyzers, and HPLC to quantify contaminant levels before and after filtration. Leverage modeling tools to simulate breakthrough curves, predict media lifespan, and guide design decisions before physical testing. Lead media formulations from concept to pilot or production and refine process parameters to ensure consistency and quality. Interpret test results and generate technical reports to support product development, regulatory filings, and continuous improvement efforts. Collaborate cross-functionally with R D engineers, regulatory affairs, marketing, and manufacturing teams to support new product development and product improvement. Support Operations and Commercial teams by providing technical guidance and insights. Will work with customers to understand needs, troubleshoot issues, and translate requirements into technical solutions. Provide data and technical documentation for certification to NSF/ANSI standards (e.g., 42, 53, 401, P473). Research and evaluate new materials, chemistries, and technologies to enhance product performance and address emerging water quality challenges. Participate in root cause analysis and troubleshooting of field issues related to filter performance or material compatibility. Stay current on water treatment regulations, testing protocols, and industry trends. Qualifications: Education & Experience: Bachelor's degree in chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Environmental Science, or related field required; Master's or PhD preferred. 3+ years of experience in a laboratory or product development role related to water filtration or water treatment. Technical Skills: Strong understanding of water chemistry and common drinking water contaminants (e.g., chlorine, lead, VOCs, PFAS, pharmaceuticals). Hands-on experience with analytical instruments such as ICP-MS, UV-Vis, HPLC, GC, and TOC. Knowledge of filtration mechanisms including adsorption, ion exchange, and membrane separation. Experience designing filters in various formats (granular, block, pleated, compressed, and extruded). Familiarity with modeling tools for breakthrough simulation and media lifespan prediction. Experience leading media formulations through the development cycle into pilot or production stages. Familiarity with NSF/ANSI standards (especially 42, 53, 401, and P473) and EPA drinking water guidelines. Soft Skills: Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail. Ability to work independently and as part of a cross-functional team. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. Preferred Qualifications: Experience working with activated carbon block or granular media filters. Background in membrane science or nanomaterials a plus.
