Food Quality Control Specialist
Havre De Grace, MD
10 months contract (could go longer)
Pay: $25-$37/HR
Supports the Quality Manager in maintaining and improving the plant's Quality Management System (QMS). Ensures compliance with food safety (GFSI) and other industry standards. Oversees Quality Control lab operations and leads process improvements using risk-based approaches.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in physical sciences preferred- nonliving things -(astronomy, physics, chemistry, meteorology and geology)
- or(relevant experience considered in lieu of education).
- 5+ years of experience in quality, laboratory, or supervisory roles.
- Must have experience in the Food Industry
- Experience with a food safety certified company (BRC,SQF, IFS or FSSC22000)
- Strong leadership, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, statistical software (Minitab), SAP, and LIMS preferred.
- Experience with ISO 9001,
- Knowledge of GFSI standards (food safety)
- IPEC GMP requirements,
- Experience in HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points)
- Lean Six Sigma Green Belt preferred (Black Belt desirable).
Responsibilities:
- Maintain an auditable QMS in line with BL SI Global Q Processes, ISO-9001, and GFSI certifications.
- Track and report key performance indicators (KPIs) and support annual Management Review.
- Assist in managing the Quality Control Lab, ensuring proper test methods and compliance with global standards.
- Assist with audits (customer, certification, technical, and regulatory), conduct internal audits, and manage corrective actions.
- Monitor supplier performance and address raw material or service-related non-conformances.
- Responsible for Quality Incidents reports investigation and corrective actions
- Support the Management of Change (MOC) process for quality and regulatory impacts.
- Monitor production processes and final product quality, overseeing Out-of-Specification (OOS) investigations.
- Review Statistical Process Control (SPC) data and collaborate with production teams to enhance process control
- Participate in HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points)Team and act as a Preventive Controls Qualified Individual (PCQI).
- Maintain Food Safety and GMP programs, conducting risk assessments and preventive control implementations.
- Ensure compliance with product labeling, certificates of analysis, and regulatory permits
- Maintain ISO 9001, BRC, and applicable regulated industry certifications (Kosher, Halal, IPEC GMP).
- Drive quality and food safety improvements, reducing costs associated with quality losses.
- Adhere to all safety, health, and environmental policies, SOPs, cGMPs, and regulatory guidelines
