Posting Details

District Five is one of six districts of the New Mexico Department of Transportation. The boundaries of District Five include the following counties: Torrance, Santa Fe, Los Alamos, Rio Arriba, Taos, and San Juan. Employees in the District are responsible for providing the Maintenance, Construction, Engineering Support, and Business support measures of the Department to ensure the safety of the public as well as efficient highways.

This position is in Santa Fe and will be within the District Five Complex /Design & Local Government Section.

Why does the job exist?

The Project Development Engineer is tasked with managing assignments within District Five's Design and Local Government Sections.

How does it get done?

The Incumbent will draft request for proposal's (RFP's) and manage consultant contracts for District Five lead projects. The incumbent is responsible for analyzing and developing project schedules and the engineer's opinion of probable costs and provide procedural, substantive, and quality reviews of project schedule activities and milestones. The incumbent will also assist with auditing Local Lead Projects within District Five.

The traveling public and citizens of New Mexico.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will have experience in the following:

-Supervising employees,

-Design of highways using current American Association of State Highway and Transportation design standards,

-Use of New Mexico Department of Transportation specifications and plan development procedures for assigned projects, and,

-Local government project development procedures.

Minimum Qualification

Bachelor of Science Degree from an accredited college or university in a relevant engineering discipline with licensure and five (5) years of engineering experience, one (1) of which must be as a Licensed Professional Engineer. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling nine (9) years may substitute for the required education and experience. Must be certified by the NMBLPEPS as a Licensed Professional Engineer in good standing within six (6) months of hire.

Employment Requirements

Employment requires successful completion of post offer pre-employment physical. Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License. Business Reference check and Driver's License verification are required and employment is conditional pending results.

Working Conditions

Work is primarily performed in an office setting. Extensive use of personal computer. Travel throughout the state and occasional out of state travel may be required.
