Chemistry Instructor/Laboratory Coordinator
Dillard University, classified by the Carnegie Commission on Higher Education as a balanced arts and sciences/professions institution, located in the culturally rich and diverse city of New Orleans, Louisiana, invites qualified applicants to apply for the position of an Instructor/Laboratory Coordinator Chemistry in the School of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM).
Job Description:
This position is non-tenure track Instructor of Chemistry/Laboratory Coordinator for the 2025-2026 academic year. The appointment is effective on August 1, 2025. The successful candidate reports to the Chemistry Program Coordinator and the Chair of the School of STEM. Twenty-five percent (25%) of the time will be devoted to laboratory instruction while seventy-five percent (75%) of the time will be devoted to serving as Laboratory Coordinator.
Qualifications:
The successful candidate must have a minimum of a master's degree preferred in a Chemical science discipline.
Job Requirements:
The candidate will be responsible for maintaining inventory and keeping teaching laboratories equipped; procuring consumables (chemicals, solvents, glassward) for laboratories in conjunction with the faculty member that is responsible for each laboratory course; ensuring compliance with federal and state safety regulations; direct assistance to adjunct instructors. The candidate prepares reagents and sets up general chemistry I&II, organic chemistry I&II, and analytical chemistry laboratory experiments and dismantles, washes, and restocks the glassware used for the experiment.
The candidate should have a strong commitment to excellence in undergraduate teaching. The candidate is expected to use creative, innovative, and technologically-appropriate approaches to engage students in learning content. Candidates should possess the ability to instruct classes using face-to-face, hybrid, and fully online modalities.
Duties and responsibilities include:
- Teach one section of general chemistry or organic chemistry laboratory course every semester.
- Inspect all eye washes, showers, and fume hoods.
- Report non-working safety equipment to the facility department.
- Separate and store chemical wastes according to best practice; request for their disposal from authorized agency/personnel
- Request fume hood certification annually
- Equip all labs with glassware, chemicals, cleaning, and consumable materials
- Be available to address and provide laboratory needs for all labs such as double distilled water
- Make the laboratory rooms accessible to adjunct instructors.
- Hold required office hours.
