Laboratory Technician II

Technical position in the Utah Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory (UVDL) with primary duties in the molecular section and secondary duties in serology and bacteriology sections.

• Perform PCR-based assays on samples of animal origin.
• Develop or transfer PCR-based assays to detect animal pathogens.
• Perform serologic and microbiologic tests on animal-origin samples.
• Participate in the laboratory's quality system, including completion of necessary proficiency tests.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Two years of related experience (e.g. experience in molecular biology, etc.); OR an associate degree/vocational training; OR an equivalent combination of education plus experience in a biological science.
• Ability to work in a team environment.
• Capacity to learn/master new techniques.

Employees work indoors and are protected from weather and/or contaminants, but not, necessarily, occasional temperature changes. The employee is regularly required to sit and often uses repetitive hand motions.

UVDL is a unit within the College of Veterinary Medicine and is a cooperative effort between USU and the Utah Department of Agriculture and Food and is accredited by the American Association of Veterinary Laboratory Diagnosticians (AAVLD). The UVDL provides veterinary diagnostic services for the State of Utah.
