The Position

This position is based on-site in Carlsbad, CA, and/or Torrey Pines, CA. This position primarily sits in Torrey Pines, CA. Travel between sites of 1 mile distance may be required.

The Opportunity

As a member of our R&D Assay Technology Development team as Research Associate, you will execute and analyze scientific experiments to enhance existing and future consumables and assays, and/or the development of new molecular diagnostic assays on the Roche Cobas ePlex platform.

This is a unique opportunity to leverage your background and skills in molecular biology, microbiology, biochemical, bioanalytical, and bioengineering skills to enhance and build your career by working cross-functionally; your contributions will directly impact business opportunities through the successful completion of projects. Also, you are:

  • Running the day-to-day experiments and data analysis in the laboratory independently or in collaboration with others. Identifying and solving problems in experiments or protocol designs, and suggesting improvements.
  • Conducting analytical and bioanalytical tasks, including PCR amplification of target sequences, DNA quantification by qPCR or other methods, and analysis by gel electrophoresis.
  • Preparing biochemical reagents, buffers, and solutions as needed, using appropriate procedural and documentation methods, including industry standard good laboratory practices and good documentation practices; you may be responsible for analyzing samples in a BSL 2 lab.
  • Preparing documents meeting company standards, including data summaries, reports, SOPs, lab notebooks, and procedures; presenting basic data in graphical or tabular forms at work meetings as required; analyzing data at a small scale (single experiment) without assistance.
  • Interacting with other internal departments, as necessary, to plan and expedite project objectives.
  • Responsible for maintaining stockroom supplies, inventory, and lab cleaning duties, as well as other duties as assigned by management.

Additional responsibilities for the Senior Research Associate

  • Analyzing moderately sized data sets across multiple experiments and looking for trends; preparing documents meeting company standards.
  • Reading literature directly associated with assigned projects and related areas; presenting work at meetings as required, and discussing new strategies and methods to address immediate and upcoming technical issues.

Who You Are

Research Associate II

  • You have a Bachelor's Degree in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Chemistry, Engineering or a related field, required
  • You have 2+ years of R&D laboratory experience outside of a class environment, required. Your experience should be a hands-on lab, using standard laboratory equipment and machinery.

Senior Reserach Associate

  • You have a B.S. or M.S. degree in Biochemistry, Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Analytical Chemistry, or a related field with 5+/3+ years molecular biology or biochemistry laboratory experience pos. degree.
  • You have experience as a research associate with PCR (polymerase chain reaction) and molecular biology in an industrial setting.
  • You have experience working within a regulated 510(k) or PMA product development environment - FDA, GMP, ISO, etc. preferred.

Behaviors, competencies, and qualities of the ideal applicant

  • You have demonstrated working knowledge of scientific principles and literature, experimental design, setup, data collection and analysis.

The expected salary range for the Research Associate II position, based on the primary location of Torrey Pines, CA, is $57,900 - $82,700.

The expected salary range for the Senior Research Associate position based on the primary location of Torrey Pines, CA, is $82,700 - $95,900. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance.
