Planned Parenthood Los Angeles is seeking an experienced Lead Clinical Lab Scientist with excellent leadership and lab skills to work in our Long Beach Central Health Center. The purpose this role is to provide quality patient care including accessioning and processing specimens; approving, resulting and communicating results and lab findings. Additionally, this role will maintain the laboratory at all times in CLIA compliance and within all licensing requirements. Current California Clinical Laboratory Scientist license required. ASCP preferred Minimum five (5) years of recent experience as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist/ Medical Technologist in a clinical laboratory setting required. Experience leading a licensed and non-licensed team preferred. Ability to work flexible hours, including extended hours, as requested. Ability and willingness to travel within Los Angeles County. Reliable means of transportation for onsite and off-site work. About the position: Abortion patients are cared for at each of our health centers, and in part through the administrative, support, and other non-clinical services provided at all PPLA locations, and by all PPLA employees. Supporting these critical services is an essential job duty, and a fundamental responsibility of all employees and contractors. Perform laboratory testing in compliance with PPLA policies, Federal and state licensing (CLIA and OSHA). Perform necessary duties to fulfill all testing requirements, from pre-analytical to analytical and post-analytical phases in a timely fashion. Perform DNA amplification tests. Report results to PPLA clinics. Answer phones, look up results, enter orders and results in LIS, answer clinic questions as capable and appropriate or refer questions to Laboratory Supervisor as needed. Maintain adequate records for quality assurance, quality control, proficiency testing and other statistical data. Perform proficiency testing with strict adherence to CLIA guidelines (proficiency tests are treated no differently than patient samples). Follow corrective action procedures and documentation policies according to the Quality Assurance Plan. Maintain inventory of all lab supplies and reagents. Complete required morbidity reporting. Prepare solutions, reagents according to standards and policy and procedures. Participate in quality management/quality control efforts. Takes remedial actions when test systems deviate from the laboratory's established performance specifications. Ensures that patient test results are not reported until all corrective actions have been taken and the test system functions properly. Participates in the orientation of all Lab staff. Provide feedback to Health Center Supervisor regarding the team's performance Provide medical laboratory diagnostic and therapeutic information, products, and services. Adheres to specimen preparation procedures. Daily review and approval of test results. Schedule and approve laboratory environmental. Implements new programs, tests, methods, and instrumentation. Establishes quality standards to maintain medical laboratory equipment performance. Keeps supplies stocked by determining inventory level. Maintains medical laboratory productivity by monitoring the workload of functional areas. Identifies informational needs to manage medical laboratory information systems. Collaborate with Health Center Supervisor on lab schedule to ensure proper coverage. Complies with state and professional continuing education licensure requirements.
