What you need to know
+ TTI is a Texas based agency. This position has the flexibility of a hybrid remote option with two days in a TTI Texas based office. This can be discussed further during the interview process.
+ The salary range for position is commensurate. Final salary will be determined based on the applicant's qualifications and experience.
Job Summary
The Associate Research Scientist will bring expertise to TTI in the area of aviation and space research with a focus on advanced air mobility (AAM) and next-generation air transportation systems, including electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). The ideal candidate will work across TTIs research groups to conduct applied research and pursue opportunities related to aviation and space.
The successful candidate is required to have recognized technical and scientific credentials in this area. The applicant is expected to play a key role in acquiring research funding, identifying new contract opportunities, initiating complex research projects, and serving as Principal Investigator (PI). The successful candidate will promote TTI research, develop new sponsors, identify future research directions, and actively nurture research opportunities.
In support of existing TTI research teams, the candidate must supervise, develop, and mentor junior researchers, as well as participate effectively in building teams across TTI.
Continuation in this position is contingent upon the availability of funding derived from research programs or specific projects, as well as satisfactory performance.
Essential Duties
Applied Research (50%)
+ Serve as Principal Investigator or Project Manager on projects including supporting TTIs role in existing aviation related projects and partnerships.
+ Work with multidisciplinary teams to conduct research, technology transfer, and implementation projects.
+ Conduct project management activities, including planning, budgeting, supervision, and coordination to meet sponsor expectations.
+ Liaise with sponsors, ensuring alignment with project goals and timely delivery of high-quality outcomes.
Business Development (25%)
+ Develop and maintain relationships with public agencies and sponsors.
+ Leverage industry expertise and networks to identify and pursue new and unique business opportunities for TTI.
+ Lead proposal development and contribute to securing research funding and contracts.
+ Identify future research directions and proactively develop innovative project ideas.
Technical Leadership and Innovation (10%)
+ Provide guidance on advancements in the aviation and space sections
+ Initiate complex research projects and contribute original research that attains statewide or national recognition.
Mentorship and Team Building (10%)
+ Supervise, mentor, and develop junior researchers or students.
+ Work collaboratively across TTI to build effective teams.
Other Duties as Assigned (5%)
Required Education and Experience
+ Masters Degree
+ Five (5) years of related professional experience
Preferred Education and Experience
+ Ph.D. degree in related field
+ 12 years related work experience.
