Role reports to: Manager or Sr. Manager of Skin Health R&D
Location: Summit, NJ
Travel %: up to 10% domestic or international travel required
Pay: $84,000- 135,700
What you will do
The Senior Scientist, Skin Health & Beauty will have End to End responsibility for product development across various Skin Health categories including facial moisturizers and treatments, makeup, SPF, and acne/cleansing as well as support for post launch projects. Strong communication skills together with the ability to manage complexity must have prerequisites. The candidate will provide strategic and operational skills in the execution of regional and global projects, including analyzing the new consumer insight to build a strategic innovation pipeline. Responsibilities will also include mentorship and development of more junior scientists.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead innovative end to end skin health & beauty development projects
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure product quality and performance standards are met
- Stay current on industry trends and technologies to drive product innovation
- Present findings and recommendations to senior management and key stakeholders
- Lead the identification and assessment of external innovation partners to develop innovative products.
- Drive continuous improvement in the development of new materials, processes, and products to ensure quality and efficiency
- Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams to define, design, and implement new makeup features
- Initiates and performs assigned research activities within established guidelines.
- Displays increasing levels of independence at work and task and handles complex responsibility.
- Independently designs experiments/analyses based on interpretations and conclusions.
- Corrects issues that may not be immediately evident, using existing or new procedures/processes.
- Applies organizational understanding and awareness and participates in decision making in collaboration with others.
- Contributes technical ideas and concepts that impact project success.
- Collaborates effectively with project members following priorities, checkpoints and timelines in support of objective.
- Engages in project and program management; identifies and implements process level efficiencies. Makes progression towards innovative thinking at the macro level; Generates innovative ideas to create value.
- Develops others at lower levels and provides task-oriented support;
- Possess sophisticated understanding of compliance and regulatory requirements.
- Contributes to the preparation and submission of technical reports.
- Ensures compliance with regulatory agency regulations and interpretations.
What we are looking for
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or related field
- Minimum years of proven experience in skin health product development:
- 5 years of experience with BS or equivalent
- 3-5 years of experience with MS
- Entry point with PhD
- Experience with cosmetic/topical formulations is required.
- Demonstrated track record of successfully launching innovative skin health & beauty products
- Strong knowledge of cosmetic regulations and safety standards
- Excellent communication and presentation abilities
Desired Qualifications
- 5 years of hands-on experience in cosmetic formulation and product development
- Experience in developing, formulating and launching beauty and personal care products in the market
- Proficiency in utilizing third-party and/or contract manufacturers to develop beauty and personal care products
- Ability to manage routine processes and complexity, risk-taking and decision making are critical components of the role in providing guidance and solutions to technical problems
