Role reports to: Manager or Sr. Manager of Skin Health R&D

Location: Summit, NJ

Travel %: up to 10% domestic or international travel required

Pay: $68,000-$109,825

What you will do

The Scientist, Skin Health & Beauty will have responsibility for product development across various Skin Health categories including facial moisturizers and treatments, makeup, SPF, and acne/cleansing as well as support for post launch projects. Strong communication skills together with the ability to manage complexity are must have prerequisites. The candidate will provide strategic and operational skills in the execution of regional and global projects, including analyzing the new consumer insight to build a strategic innovation pipeline.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead innovative end to end skin health & beauty development projects
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure product quality and performance standards are met
  • Stay current on industry trends and technologies to drive product innovation
  • Present findings and recommendations to senior management and key stakeholders
  • Lead the identification and assessment of external innovation partners to develop innovative products.
  • Drive continuous improvement in the development of new materials, processes, and products to ensure quality and efficiency
  • Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams to define, design, and implement new makeup features
  • Independently performs assigned scientific experiments by providing input and identifying problems, assists in developing recommendations for improving standard procedures with decreasing level of supervision.
  • Focuses on increasing depth in research and analysis in technical and organizational processes to support larger R&D activities.
  • Independently creates hypothesis, study designs, and analyzes results to make a conclusion and recommendation.
  • Recommend increasingly complex modifications to existing systems, processes, techniques or programs for improvement.
  • Lead tasks with greater independence and decreasing level of supervision.
  • Possesses organizational knowledge and awareness and understand the business context in which decisions are made.
  • Recommends increasingly complex modifications to existing systems, processes, techniques or programs for improvement.
  • Assists in developing recommendations for improving standard procedures.
  • Engages in incremental and micro-level innovation within own discipline.
  • Maintains current laboratory equipment and operates analytical and other Instruments
  • Draft technical reports and contributes to information management.
  • Applies understanding and ensures compliance with regulatory agency regulations and interpretations

What we are looking for

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or related field
  • Minimum years of proven experience in skin health product development:
  • 3-5 years of experience with BS or equivalent
  • 0-2 years of experience with MS
  • Experience with cosmetic/topical formulations is required.
  • Demonstrated track record of successfully launching innovative skin health & beauty products
  • Strong knowledge of cosmetic regulations and safety standards
  • Excellent communication and presentation abilities

Desired Qualifications

  • 3-5 years of hands-on experience in cosmetic formulation and product development
  • Experience in developing, formulating and launching beauty and personal care products in the market
  • Proficiency in utilizing third-party and/or contract manufacturers to develop beauty and personal care products
  • Ability to manage routine processes and complexity, risk-taking and decision making are critical components of the role in providing guidance and solutions to technical problems
