About the Role:

The Analytical Development Chemist II possesses an ability to perform various analytical instrumentational testing to support finished products or raw materials testing in a regulated environment with little to no user errors. The person in this role is responsible for performing routine assay using modern instrumentation.

Key Job Responsibilities

  1. Maintain precise records for the Analytical Development department.
  2. Tests products and generates reports on formulas and packaging.
  3. Performs analytical instrumentational testing to support finished products or raw materials testing in a regulated environment with little to no user errors.
  4. Demonstrate a good understanding of the analytical chemistry principles behind the testing conducted in the laboratory to aid in troubleshooting his/her own or colleagues testing issues.
  5. Execute assay method validation protocol and generate analytical reports with minimum supervision.
  6. Performs wet chemistry testing and understands the analytical chemistry principles behind the different testing.
  7. Demonstrates knowledge of and adheres to USP and other pharmacopeia.
  8. Retrieves, tests, and documents monthly samples with reference and adherence to the stability program.
  9. Logs stability receipts and other data into Scientek.
  10. Conducts statistical calculations related to % Difference, Average, Standard Deviation, % RSD.
  11. Reviews peer data for calculation errors and interprets data under supervision.
  12. Assists in writing experimental testing plans to help with the investigational steps.
  13. Perform investigations and determines the root cause and the corrective actions with minimum supervision.
  14. Maintains accurate and complete notebook records for all method development, validation, and investigational studies in accordance with SOPs and protocols.
  15. Maintains all analytical instruments in proper condition, including the calibration of instruments on a pre-determined time interval.
  16. Conducts technical literature searches.
  17. Creates, contributes and/or reviews Corporate SOPs and Departmental Guideline documents either independently or in conjunction with other departments.
  18. Provides laboratory and instrument training to technicians and coordinates technicians work schedule, where appropriate.
  19. Ensures the maintenance and/or adherence to good laboratory practices and all safety regulations.

Basic Qualifications

  1. Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Biology, or related scientific discipline with 2-3 years + of applicable laboratory experience preferable in the cosmetics/pharmaceutical OTC industry.
  2. Must demonstrate effective communication skills for interactions with laboratory colleagues, project managers, and colleagues from numerous functional areas
  3. Must listen actively and readily assumes responsibility for actions. Capable of managing tactical steps to push projects forward.
  4. Master ability to use the laboratory instrumentation and understand the analytical chemistry principles behind the instrumentation.
  5. Good math aptitude and strong verbal and written communication skills.
  6. A broad understanding of physical and chemical properties of chemicals, OSHA regulations, FDA regulations, USP, and cGMP with ability of adhering/complying to very disciplined scientific procedures.
  7. Demonstrated proficiency in office and laboratory instrument software.
  8. Maintains the confidentiality of all data and easy accessibility of such records.

Compensation

The base pay for this position ranges from $62,000 to $68,000 annually. Pay is based on a number of factors including job related knowledge, skills and experience. The job role is eligible for a discretionary bonus that may be provided as part of a total compensation package.
