The Chemical Engineering Department at WPI is seeking a highly motivated Research Scientist to conduct advanced research on the development and optimization of techniques for uranium extraction from wastewater. The successful candidate will join an interdisciplinary team of researchers working at the intersection of environmental engineering, chemistry, and materials science, with the goal of enhancing resource recovery and mitigating environmental contamination from the nuclear and mining industries.JOB DESCRIPTION
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, synthesize, and characterize novel electrode materials for selective uranium capture from complex aqueous matrices.
- Investigate fundamentals of the chemical-electrochemical-mechanical processes for uranium extraction.
- Conduct laboratory-scale experiments and data analysis.
- Conduct synchrotron-based experiments at the national laboratory facilities
- Prepare reports, scientific publications, and presentations for conferences and stakeholders.
- Assist with mentoring graduate and undergraduate students and contribute to collaborative proposals for external funding.
