**Job Title: Senior Perfusion Scientist**

**General Summary:**
The Mammalian Upstream Process Development (USP) team, part of our R&D organization, is responsible for advancing cell line development, cell culture technologies, and bioprocess optimization to support our clients drug development programs. This group develops cell culture platformsincluding media formulation and bioprocess strategies for batch, fed-batch, and perfusion systemsranging from early-stage development (e.g., shake flasks, high-throughput bioreactors) to pilot-scale production supporting cGMP-like toxicology material manufacturing.
The Senior Scientist will lead multiple client-facing projects, ensuring alignment with scope, budget, and timelines. The ideal candidate will possess deep expertise in mammalian cell culture process development, a comprehensive understanding of drug development, and a strong foundation in scientific and technological advancements. This role may include mentoring and supervising junior staff while driving innovation within the upstream team.
**Key Responsibilities:**
+ Lead and manage multiple upstream process development projects simultaneously.
+ Design, plan, and execute cell culture experiments using shake flasks, high-throughput bioreactor systems (e.g., Ambr15, Ambr250), and bench-scale bioreactors.
+ Independently develop and optimize robust, scalable bioprocessesprimarily fed-batch and perfusionfor biologics including monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) and recombinant therapeutic proteins.
+ Evaluate and implement new technologies (e.g., PAT tools, process control strategies, media/feed optimization).
+ Collaborate across R&D teams (e.g., Cell Line Development, Downstream Development, Microbial USP, Analytical Development) to interpret and apply upstream results.
+ Provide technical support to Manufacturing and Quality teams, including troubleshooting and process investigations.
+ Source and evaluate new upstream technologies and equipment to enhance laboratory capabilities.
+ Analyze, interpret, and present experimental data in technical reports and client presentations.
+ Serve as a subject matter expert in upstream development and represent the team in internal and external meetings.
+ Mentor junior scientists and support their professional development.
+ Draft and review SOPs, batch records, protocols, and technical reports.
+ Ensure compliance with lab safety and operational protocols.
+ Stay current with emerging trends and advancements in bioprocessing and cell culture technologies.
**Required Qualifications:**
+ Ph.D. in Bioprocess, Biochemical Engineering, or a related field with 7+ years of relevant experience (minimum 3 years in an industrial USP role), **or** M.Sc. with 10+ years of experience (minimum 2 years in industry).
+ Proven track record in upstream process development, including high-throughput experimentation, DoE, statistical analysis, and QbD principles.
+ Extensive experience developing and scaling up fed-batch and continuous perfusion systems.
+ Hands-on expertise with Ambr15/Ambr250 systems.
+ Solid understanding of scale-up/scale-down models to support process commercialization.
+ In-depth knowledge of CHO-based systems and experience with mAb production at scales up to 500L in various bioreactor systems (single-use and stainless steel). **_This job description is a complete list of all desired skills but not all are required.
