Scientist 3, Peptide Discovery, Conjugation
- Genentech
- South San Francisco, California
- Full Time
A healthier future. Its what drives us to innovate. To continuously advance science and ensure everyone has access to the healthcare they need today and for generations to come. Creating a world where we all have more time with the people we love. Thats what makes us Genentech, a member of the Roche Group.
The Opportunity
We are a multidisciplinary team within the department of Peptide Therapeutics whose work spans multiple applications, including the development of peptides as drugs for different disease areas, as tissue-selective targeting ligands, or as tool molecules to study emerging biology. We also innovate on platform technologies to expand our discovery capabilities and enable ongoing portfolio research. Were looking for a bench-focused scientist that will have opportunities to contribute towards the various stages of the peptide discovery and development process, including the identification of hit molecules from library selection/screening studies, validation of synthetically made compounds using binding and functional assays, and optimization of properties through re-screening efforts, structure-based rational design, and bioconjugation.
Who You Are
Ph.D. in chemistry, chemical biology, or a related discipline working extensively with peptides, proteins, and/or other biomolecules
A minimum of 3 years of relevant experience, ideally in industry, in basic solution phase synthesis (including various bioconjugation techniques), purification by automated flash chromatography and/or prep-HPLC, and standard peptide analytical methods (e.g. analytical HPLC, LCMS, MALDI, etc.)
Willingness to work with and innovate using library display technologies (phage, mRNA, yeast); previous display experience is preferred but not required
Eagerness to learn new techniques when appropriate
Can work both independently and collaboratively; is highly team-oriented
Has strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills
Record of productivity (journal articles, patents, etc.)
Preferred
Relevant postdoc or industry experience
Expertise in modeling peptide-protein interactions using appropriate software (MOE or Schrodinger)
Experience with standard protein analytical methods (LCMS, SDS-PAGE, SEC, western)
Experience with biochemical (e.g. ELISA), biophysical (e.g. SPR/BLI/FP), and cell-based assays
Experience with protein expression and purification (affinity, ion exchange, size exclusion, and/or HPLC)
previous display experience is preferred but not required
