R&D Applications Scientist (VWR International, LLC / Bridgewater, NJ) - Develop and optimize processes from development scale to pilot scale using engineering techniques for new product introductions (NPIs) including amino acids, sugars, detergents, and porous chromatography resins; design experiments and troubleshoot processes to solve production issues at manufacturing sites including performing root-cause analysis and lab experiments; oversee implementation of protein purification processes using preparative and pilot scale chromatography equipment for the production of recombinant protein products; perform lab scale material compatibility and testing studies on plastics, metals, and other materials of construction; do design of experiments (DoE) to optimize experimental plan for new products development; work with cross functional teams including quality, engineering, and project/product management to help meet technical deliverables for the project. Requires Masters in Materials Science and Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or closely related field and one year of experience in job offered or as a Research Assistant and/or Research & Development Intern. Background in education, training or experience must include demonstrated ability to collaborate in a team to prepare fluid catalytic cracking catalysts; explore technologies including zeolite crystallization and ion exchange technologies to improve commercial products; analytical testing using DSC, FTIR, UV-Vis; material testing and evaluation using electron microscopy (SEM), tensile testing, IZOD impact testing, flex testing, optical microscopy for material and/or reaction monitoring; development and selection of cost-efficient chemical synthesis pathways; porous material development and testing using Hg-Porosimeter. Domestic travel required two-to-three times a year.
