Postdoctoral Fellow in Anti-Bacterial Drug Discovery

Trudeau Institute, a globally recognized biomedical research institute dedicated to combating infectious diseases, invites applications for a Postdoctoral Fellow position in antibacterial drug discovery. Our mission is to develop innovative solutions that reduce the burden of infectious diseases through cutting-edge basic and translational research.

As part of our expanding bacterial pathogenesis and therapeutic discovery program, we are seeking a highly motivated scientist with expertise in bacteriology to investigate how pathogens such as ESKAPE organisms, Mycobacterium tuberculosis, and nontuberculous mycobacteria (NTM) persist in the host and to leverage these findings toward the development of novel therapeutic interventions.

Research Focus and Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will:

Design and conduct research to evaluate bacterial persistence mechanisms and drug efficacy. Utilize bacterial genetics, biochemical assays, in vitro infection models, and in vivo preclinical animal models, including BSL-3-level studies. Apply multi-omics approaches (genomics, transcriptomics, metabolomics) to identify and validate drug targets. Collaborate across multidisciplinary teams and with external partners from academia, biotech, pharma, and global health organizations. Present findings through peer-reviewed publications and conference presentations. Mentor junior researchers and contribute to a highly collaborative and intellectually vibrant research environment. Candidate Qualifications:

PhD or MD/PhD in Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, or a related field. A strong publication record demonstrating independence and scientific rigor. Hands-on experience with bacterial culture, molecular genetics, mammalian cell models and biochemical approaches. Familiarity with evaluating novel antimicrobial agents and pharmacologic testing. Experience with mass spectrometry-based metabolomics is a plus. Excellent communication skills and a strong grasp of the scientific literature. Resources and Environment:

Trudeau Institute offers:

Extensive BSL-2, ABSL-2, BSL-3 and ABSL-3 facilities, ideal for infectious disease research. State-of-the-art instrumentation including flow cytometry, confocal microscopy, next-gen sequencing, and mass spectrometry. On-campus housing options on the shores of a private lake in the Adirondack Mountains, with exceptional access to outdoor recreation. Compensation and Benefits: Salary is based on the current NIH postdoctoral wage scale, commensurate with experience (NIH Guidelines). Benefits include:

Comprehensive health, dental, vision, and life insurance Long-term disability insurance Generous retirement plan Paid time off and access to institute-supported career development opportunities

Trudeau Institute is an equal opportunity/affirmative action employer and strongly encourages applications from women, minorities, individuals with disabilities, and veterans.
