Job Summary

Regular, Full-Time, RCUH Non-Civil Service position with the University of Hawaii at Hilo (UHH), Daniel K. Inouye College of Pharmacy (DKICP), Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, located in Hilo, Hawaii. Continuation of employment is dependent upon program/operational needs, satisfactory work performance, availability of funds, and compliance with applicable Federal/State laws.

MONTHLY SALARY RANGE: $4,701 - $5,000/Mon.

DUTIES: Performs organic synthesis and develops structure activity relationships (SAR) of novel anti-C. difficile agents and FabK inhibitors, which are based on related molecules and/or emerging natural product leads. Analyzes and interprets data collected. Writes manuscripts and reports. Assists the PI in establishing and managing the research activities that need to be accomplished in the laboratory. Assists in researching synthetic methods and strategies and determining next steps on experimental results. Assists in routine laboratory management and in maintaining service agreements.

PRIMARY QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION: PhD or Doctorate from an accredited college or university in Organic Chemistry, Medicinal Chemistry, or related field.

EXPERIENCE: One to three (1-3) years of related experience, which includes graduate thesis work.

KNOWLEDGE: Strong background in multi-step organic synthesis. Knowledge of scientific writing to prepare manuscripts, reports, and grant proposals. Understanding of pharmaceutical science.

ABILITIES & SKILLS: Professional communication skills, including written and oral. General computer skills including ability to operate numerous software programs, such as Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access) and Endnote. Post Offer/Employment Condition: Must complete the online Hazard Communication training immediately after hire or no later than employee's initial exposure to hazardous chemicals.
