responsibilities:
- Generate recombinant baculovirus and perform protein expression in insect cell systems using shake flasks
- Maintain insect cell cultures, perform transfection, infection, and harvest viral stocks from suspension cultures
- Sample culture flasks and prepare samples for analytical testing
- Perform molecular biology techniques such as DNA purification, PCR, SDS-PAGE, and Western blotting
- Practice aseptic techniques consistently in all lab procedures
- Wash glassware and upstream process equipment as part of lab maintenance
- Design, conduct, and document experiments, maintaining accurate records in lab notebooks and electronic systems
- Present experimental results in team and departmental meetings
- Support lab organization, reagent inventory tracking, and ordering
- Ensure compliance with SOPs, protocols, and safety standards
- Write and review protocols, technical documents, and reports
- Coordinate data collection and maintain accurate tracking of project information
qualifications:
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Biology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Chemical/Biochemical Engineering, Biotechnology, or a related field
- 1-2 years of hands-on laboratory experience (academic or industry), including during school
- Experience with basic lab techniques such as pipetting, cell culture, DNA purification, and PCR
- Familiarity with aseptic techniques and standard lab equipment
- Strong organizational and documentation skills; ability to maintain accurate lab records
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team setting
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
- Must be authorized to work in the United States; this position does not offer visa sponsorship
- Experience with baculovirus protein expression systems and insect cell cultures
- Knowledge or hands-on use of Western blotting (immunoblotting), DNA and protein gels
- Familiarity with SnapGene or similar software for DNA construct design
- Prior experience presenting data in meetings or formal settings
- Local candidates are preferred, but relocation at personal expense will be considered
