About the Opportunity:

This Special Process Engineering role is the subject matter expert who is responsible for managing and monitoring of all special process activities related to Chemical Processing (CP) and Non-Conventional Machining (NCM). They are responsible for supporting Production and Quality by addressing process failures and abnormalities as well as developing/implementing process improvements for production hardware.

Location: Manchester, CT
This position is 100% on site.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform and/or review daily, weekly, monthly, periodic testing such as Chemical Adjustments, Conductivity/TDS, Resistivity, Chloride Determination by Argentometric Titration, Acid Acceptance, Nitric Acid Percentage by Potentiometric Titration, Free Acid by Normality, alloy contamination by ICP, Stock Loss, Etch Rate, Hydrogen content/pick up, Stress Corrosion, pH and capability testing.
  • Perform annual internal audits against customer and Nadcap checklists for Chemical Processing: Alkaline Cleaning, Acid Cleaning, Pre-Penetrant Etch, Solution Analysis, Dry Film Lubricant/Paint, Grit Blasting and Vapor Degreasing
  • Perform annual internal audits against customer and Nadcap checklists for Non-Conventional Machining: Laser Beam Metal Removal including Cutting/Drilling and Electro Discharge Machining
  • Prepare for, host and close out all internal and external Customer audits of CP and NCM
  • Responsible for initial training/qualification and re-training of CP and NCM personnel
  • Manage CP/NCM projects and qualifications for different customers including NPI and purchasing of new machines to commissioning and validation, layout implementation/change
  • Perform in person weekly walk throughs of all CP and NCM areas to ensure processes are robust and in compliance with customer and Nadcap specifications
  • Responsible for reviewing latest revisions of customer and Nadcap specifications/ requirements
  • Work with internal team and our customers to improve CP and NCM op sheets, schedules, software control, databases, data cards, set up sheets, work instructions, routers/travelers and procedures
  • Review of certificates of conformance and data reports
  • Implement continuous improvement action plans as well as cost out plans
  • Supports production by addressing process failures and abnormalities
  • Develops and implements process improvements for production hardware.

Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 2 years relevant experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Biochemistry, Chemistry or equivalent
  • 3 years relevant experience
  • Working knowledge of Lean Manufacturing
  • Working knowledge of manufacturing techniques
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Working knowledge of drawings interpretation and geometric dimensioning and tolerances
  • Working knowledge of various machining operations, quality assurance systems, calibration and gaging
  • Working knowledge of audits

Physical Requirements:

  • Requires mobility in a manufacturing plant environment while using Personal Protective Equipment.
  • Must be able to frequently sit, stand and walk.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 15 pounds.
