Clinical Laboratory Scientist-Lead

The Lead CLS is responsible for the laboratory technical workflows through pre-analytical, analytical and post-analytical phases. Supports in the overall operation of theLaboratory by performing specialized tasks involving medical laboratory testing. Participates in the lab Quality Control program, the Quality Management program and maintains compliance and safety within the laboratory and hospital. Performs general lab tests and reports results via the Laboratory Information System (LIS), reviews test results and takes responsibility and accountability for accuracy, performance, and overall quality and service that the lab provides for all customers. Oversees the daily operation of the laboratory activities in the absence of the laboratory director.

The ideal candidate will possess:

• Graduation from an educational program approved by the CLS licensing board
• California CLS License
• 3-5 years of progressive lab experience in an acute care setting preferred
• Able to perform moderate and high complex testing in an acute care setting
• Able to serve as a resource CLS and supervise phlebotomists
• Able to understand the complex nature of healthcare, including patient testing, federal and state compliance issues, and providing quality services for the patients
• Able to participate in the demands of a new and growing lab environment—keeping quality and service to patients foremost as the standard of care provided
• Able to assist and delegates workload to laboratory staff to achieve maximum operation efficiency
• Able to assist in preparing the laboratory for surveys through maintenance of patient records, quality assurance, quality control, laboratory analyzers and equipment
• Able to maintain the usage of reagents and consumables within the laboratory with cost-effective measures
• Assists in training new CLS staff and follow through competencies
• Able to assist with CLS work schedule and rotation
• Able to resolve technical issues and ensures that remedial action is taken appropriately
• Perform other duties as assigned by the laboratory director
