Grade 7 (Salaried) Position Description: The Research Scientist in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology will demonstrate a proficiency in analytical and statistical techniques recognizing similarities and differences in data based on expected outcomes. The candidate will have the ability to design protocols and develop scientific methodology, and assisting Principal Investigator with composition and editing of grant applications. Reviews and interprets data. Candidate must be capable of characterization of new identified edible plants. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Direct, conduct and organize data collection and analysis activities; coordinate and schedule research activities. Independently perform a variety of complex assays, such as FACS analysis of T- cell, NK cell and antigen presenting cell function in living animals, isolation, and purification of tumor exosomes, western blotting, southern blotting, in vitro kinase assay, immunohistochemistry, immunoprecipitation, confocal microscope analysis of protein localization, yeast two-hybrid assay and intracellular calcium assay and HPLC based technology for identification of factors from exosomes. Develop and optimize the protocols for isolation, purification of edible plant exosomes. Demonstration in proficiency in analytical and statistical techniques recognizing similarities and differences in data based on expected outcomes. Ensures lab activities remain within regulatory guidelines and all established safety procedures are followed. Prepare written reports and documents pertaining to data management, research methodology, and study results. Participation in contract and grant proposal preparation and development. Develop methodology for enhancing the stability and solubility of therapeutic agents delivered by edible plant exosomes. Train other lab members to isolate, purify edible plant exosomes and further use it for carrying therapeutic agents. Study edible plant exosomes promote mouse memory function related projects, handling mouse brain injection, memory function tests. Collect, record, and ensure the accuracy of data. Maintain accurate and organized research data files. Providing prompt and accurate reports to principal investigator. Will be expected to recognize methodological problems and assist with implementation of solutions. Assures good operating condition of all laboratory equipment by performing minor and preventive maintenance and contacting service representatives for major repairs. Searching current scientific journals for information on recent developments and techniques. Ability in designing protocols and developing science. Monitor all lab equipment daily and make sure all equipment is running normally. Preferred Qualifications Tumor immunology and Microbiology experience. Compensation will be commensurate to candidate experience.
