Lab Analyst - Microbiology

Job Description

This position is responsible for performing microbiology release testing on incoming, in-process, and finished products while assisting in laboratory operations. The focus of the role is compliance with regulatory activities and company procedures related to the laboratory department.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct biological testing per Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and regulatory requirements, including microbial sequencing, gram staining, endotoxin, bioburden, and sterility testing.
  • Maintain daily use, maintenance, and cleaning logs for general laboratory areas and equipment, ensuring routine preventative maintenance of laboratory equipment to guarantee accuracy of results.
  • Prepare Certificates of Analysis for review.
  • Perform data entry, trending, and record organization.
  • Assist in performing incoming material inspection.
  • Participate in test method and equipment validations.
  • Ensure compliance with federal and state laws, as well as company standards and specifications.
  • Assist the Laboratory Manager as needed.
Essential Skills
  • Experience with PCR, specifically microbial identification testing.
  • Experience running common laboratory equipment including micropipettes, centrifuges, and biological safety cabinets.
  • Experience in a GMP or GLP facility.
  • Use of good documentation skills and organizational skills to record lab procedures and results.
  • Critical thinking and decision-making skills to evaluate assay strengths and weaknesses.
  • General knowledge of qualitative and quantitative chemistry, mathematics, and biological principles.
  • Understanding of occupational hazards and standard safety practices.
  • Familiarity with compendial testing and regulatory guidance.
  • Experience running endotoxin, bioburden, and/or sterility tests.
  • Familiarity with method development and validation procedures.
  • Experience working in a Federally Regulated Facility.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Bachelors degree in biology or other scientific studies, or equivalent experience in the field.
  • Must be able to work in a variety of positions and locations such as sitting, standing, squatting, kneeling, reaching, and walking for prolonged periods.
  • Potential exposure to chemicals during assay preparation, requiring special safety precautions.
  • Comfortable and able to don personal protective equipment (PPE) such as gloves, safety goggles, and lab coat.
  • Team player with the ability to multi-task and be flexible, juggling multiple tasks at once.
  • Strong documentation and communication skills.
  • Cannabis experience is not comparable to this GMP regulated environment.
Work Environment

Work hours are Monday to Friday, 8am - 4:30pm, with flexibility for earlier or later start times upon communication. The work environment is characterized by a small team of 3 people in the microbiology department. The lab is GMP and FDA regulated, with a focus on teamwork and collaboration to build and develop new methods. The atmosphere is akin to a startup company, promoting creativity and individual authenticity.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $28.00 - $34.00/hr.
