SUMMARY/JOB PURPOSE :
The Scientist I will participate in supporting the compound sample laboratory and associated inventory databases at our Alameda site. This team member will support daily lab operations and communications relating to compound storage and distribution and will require working knowledge of liquid handling/automated lab systems and must have technical expertise in compound management workflows. This job requires the individual to have excellent organization, communication, and execution skills, as well as flexibility and versatility to meet tight discovery deadlines in a dynamic, fast-moving environment.
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Participate in the daily operations of the compound management lab facilities.
Maintains accurate compound tracking utilizing our inventory software (e.g. MOSAIC).
Supports compound requests including fulfillment of orders, real-time communication with requestors and teams, and ensuring deliverables completed before deadlines.
Support compound registration, weighing, dispensing, and plating requests.
Utilize complex lab automation protocols for various liquid handling systems, independently and/or in collaboration with other automation experts to support compound management/repository.
Interact and collaborate with Medicinal Chemistry/Biology/Computational Chemistry/Lead Discovery/IT team members and external CROs to support compound management processes and delivery of high-quality compound samples.
Support handling of in-bound and out-bound sample shipments across research sites/CROs.
Proactively maintain lab consumables inventory and distribution.
Present project progress reports at department/group meetings.
Comply with company health and safety policies and general laboratory practices and ensures robust compliance across the compound/biorepository function and lab space.
Maintains laboratory notebook in a complete, consistent and concise manner in accordance with company intellectual property policies and practices.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:
Education:
High school diploma/GED and a minimum of four years of related experience; or,
Bachelors degree in a related discipline; or,
Equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience:
Strong experience in a compound management laboratory, including compound registration, inventory tracking, labware configuration, and order fulfillment.
Strong familiarity with laboratory automation equipment (e.g. liquid handlers, dispensers, labelers, compound storage systems) is essential.
Proficiency in sample inventory applications, such as MOSAIC, is required.
Knowledge of domestic and international shipping and handling (bio)hazardous materials.
Proficiency in MS Word, MS PowerPoint, and MS Excel is required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Strong verbal and written communication skills to collaborate in cross-functional teams.
Highly self-motivated, detail-oriented, and have excellent time management skills.
Strong knowledge of activities related to compound management and biorepository management processes including registration, weighing, solubilization, storing, tissue culture, cell storage, and distribution to internal and external partners.
Proficient in using automation equipment including liquid handlers and barcode labelers (preferably Agilent, Tecan Fluent, Biomek, i7, Labcyte Echo, and HighRes Biosolutions systems).
Ability to multi-task and prioritize in a fast-paced dynamic environment while delivering high quality work.
Maintain strong understanding of priority and impact of deliverables to the program, department, and organization.
Excellent interpersonal and collaboration skills.
Environment: primarily working in laboratories and office
Exposures encountered include chemical hazards, biohazards, and low temperature conditions associated with a drug discovery laboratory.
Ability to lift 25 lbs.
Travel is not required.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across severalU.S. geographic markets, and we pay differently based on those defined markets. The base pay range for this positionis $73,000 - $104,000 annually. The base pay range may take into account the candidates geographic region, which will adjust the pay depending on the specific work location.
