Environmental, Health & Safety Job Summary: Laboratory Technicians are responsible for collection, testing, and documentation of onsite process, product, and environmental samples in an industrial setting. Analytical emphasis is on wet chemistry methods, as well as gas/liquid chromatography and spectroscopy. The position is a 12 hour/day shift with 1 week of nights quarterly. A BS degree in Science or equivalent work experience is required. Good computer software skills are highly desired. Job Description:Job Responsibilities:
- Collect onsite process, product, and environmental specimens.
- Analyze specimens following established methods.
- Evaluate validity of data and communicate results.
- Document analytical results through daily logs, record books, and/or LIMS. Calibrate and maintain analytical instrumentation and equipment.
- Conduct first-line instrument troubleshooting.
- Create required paperwork and documents.
- Prepare analytical reagents and standards.
- Attend and participate in scheduled laboratory safety meetings.
Internal Controls:
Understands and complies with established departmental processes and procedures designed to support internal controls efforts. Identifies and brings to the attention of department management internal control deficiencies.
Successful incumbents will have:
- Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited university
- Minimum of one year of laboratory experience.
- Familiarity with the following analytical instrumentation: gas chromatographs, ion/liquid chromatographs, spectrophotometers, ICP type analyzers, and titration methodology.
- Experience in collecting samples (highly desired).
- Ability to multitask and work without immediate supervision.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office software, specifically Excel and Word. Familiarity with LIMS (highly desired).
- Ability to acquire Transportation Worker Identification Credentials (TWIC). Ability to prove drug and alcohol free at random or for cause.
- Ability to recognize and document workplace hazards and potential hazards.
