Reporting to the Associate Director, Field Applications, this exciting and challenging role involves working closely with the sales team to provide high quality technical expertise, consultancy, and representation for Oxford Nanopore Technologies Inc.'s products, ensuring the successful application of the products to our Bay Area customers' research. The successful candidate will be working to strengthen the company's relationship with scientists encouraging them to view Nanopore as the preferred supplier of solutions for their work.
The role is highly technical and involves providing pre-sales activities, including presentations, seminars, and technical calls. The Field Applications Scientist (FAS) will be supporting customers in all stages of technology adoption, including site readiness assessments, experimental design, use of Nanopore's devices, and downstream data analysis.
Other responsibilities include:
- Working closely with Sales to provide high quality, effective technical expertise in the Bay Area and backup technical support to other regions through a thorough knowledge of Nanopore's products and applications
- Participating in the organization and running of seminars, exhibitions, and similar in-field activities at key accounts and conferences
- Managing key customer relationships from a technical perspective to ensure success using Oxford Nanopore products
- Providing technical consultations on products and related applications at all stages of the sales cycle
- Tracking, recording, and documenting relevant information related to technical enquiries from customers and prospective customers in our CRM
- Monitoring the competition and market trends
What We're Looking For...
You'll have a solid background of lab experience with proven knowledge and understanding of genetics, molecular biology, cell biology and related fields as well as theoretical knowledge and practical experience in novel experimental design and appropriate sample preparation methodologies (DNA isolation, fragmentation, etc.). You'll be used to working in a fast-paced, multi-tasking environment with the ability to effectively work on and manage many priorities at one time. Your communication and interpersonal skills are a key strength, and you have the technical competency to discuss complex topics in genomics with experienced researchers. You'll provide information back to customers in a helpful, courteous, positive, and professional manner.
We'll expect you to have a PhD in life sciences or equivalent experience. Commercial experience in a support or customer facing role preferred. You're a confident presenter, comfortable training other scientists, and have excellent troubleshooting, writing, and editing skills. You're a competent user of Microsoft Office and ideally will have used SalesForce or a similar CRM database. Linux experience is a plus.
Frequent travel to customer sites in the Bay Area.
The salary for this role is between $97,479 and $121,849 USD. The salary offered will reflect the skills and experience of the candidate.
