Ergon's Paragon Technical Services, in Richland, MS, is seeking an Asphalt Rheology Scientist to lead laboratory-based research and development focused on bituminous materials for the asphalt paving industry. In this role, you will leverage your expertise in rheology to analyze and improve the performance of asphalts, polymers, and related materials. This is an opportunity for a driven scientist who enjoys solving practical problems through data-driven research and wants to make a tangible impact on road performance and durability. You will work closely with a collaborative team, contribute to innovative product development, and help set industry benchmarks. Education and Experience Requirements: Bachelor's degree in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or related field with a focus on rheology (Master's or Ph.D. preferred). Hands-on experience with Dynamic Shear Rheometers (DSR) and Dynamic Mechanical Analyzers (DMA) Work experience: 0-3 years Previous experience with asphalt binders is highly desirable. Strong analytical skills and attention to detail. Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment. Excellent organizational and time-management abilities. Commitment to laboratory safety, data accuracy, and process excellence. Duties and Responsibilities: Conduct and oversee rheological testing (DSR, DMA) on asphalt binders and bituminous materials. Analyze data, troubleshoot anomalies, and ensure accuracy and integrity of test results. Maintain detailed laboratory records in accordance with industry best practices. Stay current with ASTM, AASHTO, and other relevant testing standards. Perform routine calibration and maintenance of laboratory instruments. Organize and maintain lab space, including inventory management and cleanliness. Collaborate with the Technical Director and R D team on project updates and technical problem-solving. Ensure compliance with Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) policies and procedures. Support broader research initiatives through data analysis, technical reporting, and peer collaboration. Contribute to technical publications and participate in knowledge-sharing within the industry. Provide training and mentorship to new and existing lab team members. Why Paragon?
