The Department of Laboratory Medicine & Pathology has an outstanding opportunity open for a Temporary Research Scientist.
The selected individual will be engaged in neuroscience. Specifically, they will be involved in the characterization and analysis of cell and animal models of neurodegenerative disease, and the histologic and molecular characterization of human tissue samples from donors with and without neurodegenerative disease.
The research projects are geared towards understanding of the molecular mechanism of neurodegeneration, particularly in the context of multiple pathologies in aging.
Duties Include:
Perform all aspects of C. elegans husbandry, behavior/motility assessments, and genetic manipulations and confirmation experiments using C. elegans - 60%
Perform Digital Image Analysis - 10%
Participate in Nanostring experiments - 30%
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's Degree in Neuroscience, Chemistry, Biology, other biological studies AND
1 Year of experience in C. elegans handling and experimental approaches.
Performing genetic crosses.
Performing behavior assays, including swimming and crawling behavior.
Organization and thorough documentation of experiments and protocols.
Good communication skills.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
- Strong problem solving skills.
- Basic molecular benchwork skils (i.e. PCR).
