Salary Range: Up to $35,500/Annualized, commensurate with education, experience and qualifications.

Hours: 40 hours per week, exempt.

Essential Functions

Job Summary

To perform specialized research and prepare reports for publication in the field of business and economics.

Responsible for gathering and interpreting data and preparing materials for publication.

This is a grant-funded position dependent on availability of funds and departmental need.

Core Responsibilities

  • Conduct secondary business and industry research for SBDC business advisors, market research reports and special business/economic projects. Identify resources, analyze data, compose research reports, and prepare appropriate deliverables. Review and evaluate business and industry research conducted by staff for quality, relevancy, accuracy, and presentation.
  • Assess SBDC advisor and small business client's information needs, identify research resources and provide guidance to advisors.
  • Maintain department and research standards and procedures.
  • Provide research feedback and guidance to research staff.
  • Assist in the administration of research staff, resources, and daily operations.
  • Advise research staff, respond to inquiries, and manage program productivity.
  • Plan, develop and conduct research staff training sessions.
  • Collaborate with internal and external resource partners.
  • Provide excellent customer service through verbal and written communication with SBDC business advisors, research staff, resource partners and program stakeholders.
  • Collaborate in the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of the SBDCNet's strategic plan.
  • Serve in a liaison capacity with public and private organizations.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in Business, Economics, Marketing, Data Science or a directly related field.
  • One year of research experience related to field of work.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and the public.
  • Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • This position requires the ability to maintain the security and integrity of UTSA and its infrastructure.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Graduate level courses in Business, Economics, Public Health or directly related field.
  • Two years of research experience related to field of work.
  • Strong verbal and communication skills.
  • First-hand experience with Small Business Development Centers.
  • First-hand experience in owning or operating a small business.
  • Strong experience with market analysis and business intelligence.
  • Strong experience with industry standards, financial ratios, demographics, and related reports.
  • Experience with database resources.
  • Experience with website content management systems.
  • Experience with Adobe Acrobat Pro software.
  • Advanced experience with spreadsheets and database management.
  • Statistical analysis using SPSS or other equivalent statistical tools.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Basic understanding of clerical procedures and systems such as recordkeeping and filing.
  • Demonstrated independent decision-making and problem-solving ability.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Physical Demands:

  • Sedentary work; sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary, if walking and standing are required, only

occasionally.

  • Exerts up to 10 lbs. of force occasional.

This position will require working both remotely in Texas and on campus (approximately five or more days on campus per month). Travel and parking expenses are the employee's responsibility. Applicants must be adaptable and open to working in both environments.
