Divisional Chemical Engineer

Position Summary

The Divisional Chemical Engineer is responsible for delivering robust and compliant process improvements and leading innovative chemical projects across the AWIP business. Supporting chemical-related projects and functions in the production of insulated metal panels. This position also requires the divisional chemical engineer to manage projects on an independent basis & provide chemical process support in multiple areas in a manufacturing environment, and act as a stopgap in case of any vacancy within the chemical team (travel is required across different sites and states). This position can be based at any of our 3 manufacturing sites.

Essential Functions

The role includes but is not limited to the following responsibilities:

Support, initiate, deploy and sign off chemical process improvements and efficiency improvement modifications to manufacturing systems at all Insulated panel sites

Lead and support both minor and major chemical projects on manufacturing lines

Conduct research to identify new opportunities for chemical innovation and developing new products, processes, or technologies. Recommend and support value added improvement initiatives where appropriate

Work with cross-functional teams (e.g., management, design, quality, operations) to ensure project success

Maintain and develop relationships with key internal and external customers and facilitate liaison with management/design/operations staff

Attend training to develop relevant self-knowledge and technical skills

To support the local sites' manufacturing process by being proactive on the correction and modification of recurring machine processing faults

Attend regular meetings within the department

Act as a stopgap in case of any vacancy within the chemical team

Submits all required/requested reports to Dthe ivisional Chemical Engineering Manager in a timely manner

Participate in formulating quality/performance standards or product/processes

Conduct chemical process audits where applicable

Perform other work-related duties as assigned by the Divisional Chemical Engineering Manager

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

High level of interpersonal skills

Very hands on with excellent organizational, planning and time management skills

Ability to use judgment and make decisions in ambiguous and complex situations

Excellent spelling, grammar and written communication skills

Excellent telephone and oral communication skills

Must be highly proficient in all Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, and Power Point) and Outlook

Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality

Up to 25% travel.

Education and Experience

Minimum of a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering or a related field, or the equivalent combination of education and significant prior relevant professional experience and demonstrated ability to perform independent work.

Minimum 5 years of industrial experience.

Significant experience working with multidisciplinary teams in achieving complex project objectives; demonstrated strength in partnering with outside organizations successfully.

Significant experience working effectively under deadlines, reasoning effectively under broadly defined objectives and limited information, coordinating workload on multiple complex projects simultaneously, and meeting deadlines with conflicting priorities.

Experience working across organizational work units, utilizing effective teamwork and customer service skills.

Advanced verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills are necessary to effectively collaborate in a team environment, author complex technical analyses, and present technical information to external sponsors and customers.

Must have strong technical and engineering aptitude.

Willingness to learn.

Physical Requirements

Ability to interact effectively with employees and other individuals.

Ability to function effectively with moderate to high levels of stress in a demanding and dynamic environment.

Able to wear prescribed personal protective equipment and appropriate clothing.

Lift up to 50 lbs.

Effectively read, write, speak, and communicate in English fluently.

Ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time. Ability to walk, bend, climb, crouch, lean, reach, and other physical movements as required to effectively and efficiently perform duties.

Work in conditions typical of a manufacturing environment, including noise, extreme temperatures and humidity, odors, dust, etc.

Effectively use a computer, monitor, keyboard, mouse, as well as commonly used equipment and software to complete necessary functions.

Finger dexterity, visual acuity, discernment of sounds, color, and texture.

Must be able to use tools, equipment, machinery, etc.

Must be reliable and dependable.

Must have the physical and mental ability to drive a standard forklift successfully. AWIP will certify.

Must have omnidirectional spatial awareness necessary to operate CombiLift forklift.

Ability to travel by automobile, airplane, and other modes of economy-class public transportation are required.

Working Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to work near moving mechanical parts, dusty conditions, high noise environments, chemicals used in the process, and extreme temperatures. The facility is an industrial manufacturing plant.

This position is designated as safety sensitive.
