Role is responsible for executing and/or coordinating processing and testing of all samples submitted to the Phoenix laboratory for compositional, chemical, microbiological, and/or organoleptic testing. This role requires adherence to standard operating procedures (SOP), good laboratory practices (GLP), good documentation practices (GDP) and current good manufacturing practices (cGMP). This person will be responsible for ensuring the completeness and accuracy of results produced by the lab in addition to analyzing, interpreting and/or trending lab data.
Essential Functions- Must adhere to safety expectations in processing, collecting, and testing samples.
- Performs a variety of analytical testing on raw material, in-process, powder and special request samples using analytical chemistry and microbiological methods and specialized instrumentation.
- Follows established company policies, the Quality Code of Conduct, and procedures for laboratory safety, housekeeping/5S, sample receiving, sample preparation, sample collection, analysis, documentation, results reporting, and laboratory out-of-specification investigations.
- Operates and maintains laboratory instrumentation including but not limited to HPLC, FOSS DS3, FOSS FTIR, fume/biosafety hoods, pipets, balances, etc. to ensure proper preventative maintenance, calibration, and functionality.
- Demonstrates advanced knowledge, theory and technique of instrumentation such as HPLC and other analytical tools. May be required to act as a subject matter expert for appropriate tests.
- Performs additional QA functions as assigned including but not limited to managing retention, audits, and batch record review.
- Support routine, continuous improvement and for-cause SOP revisions and any associated validation activities.
- Participate in proficiency testing and quality assurance programs to validate analytical procedures and ensure compliance with regulatory and customer requirements.
- Collaborate well with the Quality team and cross-functional counterparts, including performing peer review and troubleshooting.
- Communicate effectively with teammates and management.
- Acts as lab trainer for methods/tasks qualified to perform.

- Perform other duties as assigned.
- A preference of 3+ years of laboratory experience
- Strong preference for degree in science-related field
- High School graduate or equivalency
- Experience in a food laboratory with emphasis in chemistry and microbiology testing preferred
- Ability to write well and read/interpret written instructions in English
- Math skills including multiplication and division
- Capability to adjust measuring instruments and interpret results
- Ability to accomplish assigned tasks with precision and accuracy
- Working knowledge of computer programs such as Microsoft Word and Excel preferred
- Advanced knowledge in methodology associated with test methods and instrumentation
- Ability to operate, troubleshoot and maintain necessary equipment including HPLC
- Excellent record required in safety, attendance, and punctuality
- Ability to stand and walk the entire shift if needed
- Must be able to work overtime as required
- Experience with validation and calibration activities
- Ability to effectively train others to activities/methods qualified to perform.
- Regularly involves talking or listening, sitting, and the use of hands and fingers.
- Frequently involves reaching with hands and arms, standing and walking.
- Occasionally involves crouching, stooping, and/or kneeling.
- Must be able to lift and carry items weighing up to 25 pounds.
- Manual dexterity sufficient to reach/handle items, and work with the fingers.

- Should be able to identify and distinguish colors, see clearly at 20 inches or closer and 20 feet or more, judge distances and spatial relationships, and adjust the eye to bring an object into sharp focus.
- May be exposed to moderate noise levels (i.e. office equipment and light traffic).
- May be exposed to fumes, toxic chemicals, and/or biohazardous material.
- May work in areas with mechanical moving parts.
- Flexibility to travel to other Glanbia sites if required.
