DescriptionThe Senior Process Development Chemist leads the hands-on development of new process chemistry and provides advanced chemistry support for existing processes across all Aurorium product lines and operations.

Job Details

Role Specific Responsibilities:

Develops synthetic routes that are safe, efficient, cost-effective, environmentally friendly, and well-suited for commercial operations

Leads all aspects of process chemistry development for focused new process chemistry initiatives.

Explores, identifies, and understands opportunities for process chemistry development and support to enhance business growth and productivity.

Keeps abreast of trends in the specialty chemicals industry and communicates opportunities and challenges to the rest of the organization.

Converts technical information into appropriate language and level for external and internal technical and commercial audiences.

Collaborates with business unit technical teams for the development and support of new product introductions to plant operations.

Serves as a project manager as well as participates as a team member on new process development and engineering projects.

Becomes an active member of the global technology team and provides expertise, consultation, and recommendations as assigned.

Works directly with engineering and operations teams to develop new ideas to derive value.

Reports all Health, Safety and Environmental accidents, incidents and near misses promptly

Acts in a safe and responsible manner at all times

Problem Solving and Innovation:

Active participation in continuous improvement activities

Participates in problem-solving

Takes responsibility and ownership for own learning and development in the spirit of continuous improvement of both self and the business

Assists in the training, mentoring, and assessment of other team members

Exercises autonomy and judgement subject to overall direction or guidance

Education and Qualifications:

M.S. or Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry or related technical discipline

Experience

Minimum of 5 years hands-on laboratory experience developing new process chemistry

Experience performing common organic reactions (e.g., nucleophilic substitution, electrophilic substitution, electrophilic addition, elimination, oxidation, reduction, Diles- Alder, condensation, esterification)

Experience transitioning processes from the laboratory to pilot to commercial scale.

Experience performing analytical methodologies (e.g., NMR, MS, IR, GC, HPLC) and/or interpreting their results.

Experience searching scientific literature and technical database structures

Established technical contacts within the industrial and professional society communities that foster learning, technology development, and potential new business opportunities.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Strong communication, project management skills, and organizational skills.

An aptitude for innovation, creativity, and problem-solving.

Capable at providing efficient customer service and technical support for sales and business development activities.

Drive for continuous learning and broadening the knowledge base for the entire organization.

Capable of working in a cross-functional organization, developing team-building skills, and maintaining positive and collaborative relationships with co-workers

Ability to travel up to 10% in support of pilot or plant trials.

Proficiency in Microsoft office applications such as Excel, Word, Power Point, Outlook, etc.
