The newly formed Cell Therapy department in gRED (Genentech Research and Early Development) is looking for a motivated and inquisitive Scientist to help develop novel therapies to combat intractable diseases. We are looking for a candidate with a scientific background in delivery particles for cell therapy applications, coupled with a resourceful aptitude for problem-solving. The successful applicant will display a proactive and collaborative work ethic, proficiently engaging and communicating across diverse teams with the shared goal of contributing to the Genentech cell therapy pipeline. This position will report to a Principal Scientist and play a pivotal role in shaping the growth, culture and future of the Cell Therapy Research department.
The Opportunity:
Plan, conduct, and analyze experiments leveraging a diversity of delivery modalities (viral and/or non viral) to support in vivo and ex vivo cell therapy efforts at Genentech
Design and engineer novel delivery vehicles for the in vivo engineering of immune cells
Develop and implement assays to characterize and validate in vivo generated cells
Actively collaborate with groups both within and outside gRED, on scale up and manufacturing
Maintain comprehensive and accurate experimental records utilizing electronic tools
Participate and contribute to strategic planning enabling the contribution of the Cell Therapy department to Genentechs pipeline
Who you are:
PhD with 3+ years of relevant experience, a Master's with 6+ years of experience, or a Bachelor's with 8+ years of experience
You will have direct experience with in vivo cell therapy or gene therapy, including construct design and functional characterization
You will have a record of scientific contributions evidenced by co-authorship of papers, patents, or IND reports, and/or significant contribution to a gene or cell therapy pipeline
You will have a robust background in viral-like particle or lentivirus engineering, characterization, and scale-up
Experience with culturing primary T cells and/or iPSCs, and conducting lentiviral screens or gene editing on them
Proficiency with functional readout assays such as flow cytometry, ddPCR/qPCR, NGS, and RNA-seq
An inherent team player with strong communication skills, able to prioritize team objectives and collaborate effectively
Strong work ethic, scientific curiosity, rigor, and a keen eye for detail
Preferred
Familiarity with the development of cell therapy products (e.g. pipeline progression, process development, good manufacturing practices) is desired
Additional skillset of interest could include: CRISPR screens or high-throughput transgene expression screens, protein engineering. Experience with data analysis and/or programming is a big plus

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of California is $101,400 to $188,200. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance. This position also qualifies for the benefits detailed at the link provided below.
