About the School of Physics at the Georgia Institute of Technology
The School of Physics at Georgia Tech currently has 44 academic faculty, and its graduate program is ranked 21st in the nation by US News and World Report. It has a broad research program with strengths in astrophysics, condensed matter, atomic, molecular and optical physics, physics of living systems, nonlinear science and soft matter physics. The School is also a key player in interdisciplinary initiatives established within Georgia Tech, such as quantum systems, neuroscience, microbial dynamics, planetary sciences, and data science/machine learning. Its student body comprises more than 130 graduate students and 275 undergraduate majors.

Job Summary
The School of Physics ( ) at the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta, Georgia, invites applications for a Research Scientist II faculty position in Scientific Software Development. Candidates are expected to demonstrate an exceptional commitment to the teaching and mentoring of students.
Responsibilities
The Research Scientist II will focus on scientific software development aimed at stimulating the development and maintenance of core scientific software infrastructure in academic environments through creating a new, long-term, faculty-level career path. Scientific software is a critical component of research, enabling scientists to analyze and reduce data, perform simulations, automate tasks, and produce and visualize results. As such, the development and maintenance of broadly applicable scientific software has become an increasingly important intellectual endeavor. The selected candidate will be expected to attend invited Scientific domestic or international workshop development, annual meetings held by the Simons Foundations.
Required Qualifications
Research Scientist II
- Master's degree and three (3) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree; or
- Master's degree and five (5) years of relevant full-time experience after a completion of a Bachelor's degree; or
- Doctoral degree: Candidates are expected to have received a doctorate in Physics or a related discipline.
Preferred Qualifications
Preferred candidates will have received a doctorate in Physics or a related discipline.
