For more information, please visit: www.biolifesolutions.com General Summary and Purpose: The Scientist position with the BioLife R D Department is a critical member of the team with a focus on developing analytics for cell processing methods for applications in Cell and Gene Therapy and Regenerative Medicine. This position will be instrumental in supporting the buildout of our new research lab. The Scientist will provide scientific expertise in the area of cellular processes, assay design and development, execution and delivery of experiments. The position may provide supervision to the team as it relates to planning and executing scientific experiments. As a lab position, this is an on-site position in our Bothell, WA headquarters. Duties and Responsibilities: Technical: Developing standard cell characterization assays (e.g., cell killing and cytotoxicity, and cell proliferation) under the direction of Department Head In-house expert in flow cytometry, prepare samples and run on flow cytometer, analyze the results and prepare reports Developing plate-based spectrophotometric and fluorescence assays. Performing kit-based immunoassays (ELISA), as needed Performing DNA/RNA extraction and sample preparation for testing, as needed. Maintain analytical laboratory equipment, records, research results files, and databases, including Flow Cytometer Leadership: Design experiments in accordance with project goals and deliverables, approve designs with manager and clients Review and analyze the results, and prepare reports for internal distribution or client presentation Regular communication and updates with manager and the team are essential for the progress of lab work and projects Assist in drafting industry white papers and/or publication in peer-reviewed journals Provide training to junior staff on cell culture and analytical work Work comfortably in a milestone-driven projects Other Duties: Please note this job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties or responsibilities that are required of the employee for this job. Job Requirements: Demonstrated expertise in aseptic technique for cell culture is required. Working knowledge of flow cytometry, including sample preparation, setting up proper controls, compensations and gating strategy, data analysis, and troubleshooting is required. Expertise in flow cytometry panel design and intracellular staining is preferred. Prior familiarity with CytoFlex platform is a plus. Experience in designing spectrophotometric and fluorescence assays in plate readers is required. Previous experience in performing kit-based immunoassays (ELISA) is preferred. Working knowledge of cellular assay development and fluorescent microscopy is required. Knowledge of cryopreservation science is a strong plus. Background in immunology or hematology is a plus. Strong problem solving and troubleshooting skills. Strong organizational and time management skills is required to handle more concurrent projects Ability to collaborate with a team as well as work independently under the project timeline. Effective communication skills both written and verbal. Demonstrated effective presentation skills are required. Job Specifications: BSc or MSc in Biology, Biomedical, Bioengineering, or Chemical Engineering with 5-8 years of relevant experience, or PhD with a minimum of 1-4 years of experience required. The US base salary range for this position at full-time is $93,550 - $149,680 per year. Typically, new hires are brought in at or near the midpoint of the range to allow for future growth and advancement within the role. This range represents the full compensation range for this position, with consideration given to experience, skills, and qualifications. Our salary ranges are determined by position, level, location, and market competitive benchmarks. Individual pay within a level is determined by work location (including geographic pay zone region), job related skills, experience, education, and training.
