The Sr. Research Scientist for the Proteomics Core will provide technical expertise and experience to plan, design, coordinate, supervise, and carry out research projects in the Proteomics core in alignment with the Core Director's vision and strategic goals.

Key Functions

1. Assist in developing scientific planning and financial and regulatory oversight of the Proteomics Core Facility.

2. Monitor workflow, including the need for supplies and equipment maintenance.

3. Train and supervise, the team to ensure optimal research supportive function of the Proteomics Core Facility.

4. Work with researchers and when needed with the Proteomics Core Director to design and execute proteomics experiments, including sample preparation, data acquisition, and data analysis.

5. Stay abreast of technical advances in experimental methodologies, miniaturization, automation, and hardware.

6. Define and develop reports according to laboratory needs. Use laboratory expertise to identify and resolve operational issues. Interact with both internal and external sources to resolve problems. Modify or develop new techniques as necessary.

7. In conjunction with Proteomics Core Director and Core Facilities implement business models and cross charges from users, bearing in mind the need to provide affordable technology to the core users.

8. Collaborate with clinical and translational researchers to design proteomics-based discovery studies, ensuring rigorous sample processing and metadata documentation.

9. Support discovery and translational research by applying proteomic technologies to clinical specimens including blood, plasma, serum, and to tissue samples for spatial proteomics studies.

10. Contribute to the development and validation of clinically relevant proteomic assays, including biomarker discovery and verification studies.

11. Other duties as assigned.

Core Competencies

The position requires a strong understanding of advanced proteomics, relevant data analysis skills, the ability to interpret proteomics results and contribute to the design of follow-up experiments, troubleshooting issues with assay performance, and effectively communicating results and conclusions to the relevant scientists. Ability to work well under pressure and drive projects that affect critical timelines. Collaborative attitude is essential for this position.

Required advanced skills and experience in:

Analytic protein chemistry

Mass spectrometry

Proteomics

Education

Required: Masters degree in one of the natural sciences or related field

Preferred: Ph.D. in biochemistry, physical chemistry, structural biology, computer science, engineering, or related field, with postdoctoral experience

Experience

Required: Six years experience in experimental or scientific work. With PhD or Medical degree, three years experience in experimental or scientific work.

Preferred: Experience with cancer biology.
