This position is integral to the new Wake Forest Primate Research Center (WFPRC) requires a highly motivated and organized individual with the scientific and biomedical knowledge to facilitate key WFPRC activities including working closely with the Director in interactions with members, the Internal Steering Committee, the External Advisory Board; assisting with pilot grant reviews and tracking of progress; coordinating with the Biorepository team; assisting with planning of grant development strategy sessions; assisting with the assembly of grant applications; and outreach via the web and in person to collaborators and students.
Required Qualifications
Masters- or Doctoral-level biomedical scientist with eight years' experience in the management of research projects and data. Primary desired expertise for this position includes: A biomedical research background; commitment to a career in support of nonhuman primate research; strong organizational and interpersonal skills; basic data management and graphing/statistical abilities. Specific Tasks in the Context of the WFPRC
- Confer with the WFPRC Director in the planning, developing, and implementation of team research projects.
- Interact with administrative assistant to schedule and coordinate Internal Steering Committee and External Advisory Board meetings, including recording/minutes.
- Work with the faculty overseeing the Pilot Program to solicit, review, and award small grants, track progress, and assess return on investment (presentations, publications, subsequent awards).
- Work with the Biorepository director and Data Services team to catalog and track tissue, fluid, cellular, and data assets, and implement established methods for interacting with scientific users of WF NHP biorepositories.
- Coordinate data and sample sharing among a multi-institutional network of research teams. This will involve organizing investigator meetings and teleconferences; drafting research agreements; working with laboratory staff and the laboratory manager to assure research obligations are met.
- Review scientific journals, abstracts, and other research literature to obtain or verify additional information used in the design and development of original procedures or techniques related to the research/clinical projects.
- Contribution to publication of experimental results, as well as writing for other purposes (progress reports, study protocols, grant applications) and coordination and participation in scholarly activities (seminars, journal clubs, etc.).
