Research Scientist I, Protein Chemist

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Protein Chemist to join our team. The ideal candidate will lead bioconjugation efforts in discovery and process development to support Rockland's scientific and manufacturing operations. This includes managing conjugation activities, conjugation reaction optimization, supporting downstream purification development and scale-up activities; mentorship and training, support client facing meetings and updates; support sales and proposals process by providing technical and SME support including the design and costing of project activities. Key Responsibilities: Execute protein conjugation methods, including: Peptide-hapten carrier conjugations Enzymatic conjugations Fluorescent conjugations Apply an understanding of conjugation linker chemistry for method development. Conduct and develop analytical assays for protein and protein conjugate characterization Perform enzyme-mediated protein digestion and purification using various chromatographic techniques. Manage day-to-day lab activities, including workflow tracking and product inventory management. Maintain accurate and detailed laboratory notebook records in compliance with documentation standards. Respond effectively to project direction and adapt to evolving team and client needs. Take initiative in meeting deliverables and maintaining high laboratory standards. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications: Hands-on experience in a laboratory setting is required. Familiarity with protein chemistry, biomanufacturing, and biological systems. Working knowledge of protein purification using chromatographic methods. Desired: knowledge of click chemistry and direct, rapid labeling chemistry type techniques. Ability to organize and interpret data related to production processes. Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively across teams. Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and other Office applications. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to read, understand, and follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Knowledge of GMP or other regulated documentation standards is a plus. Education: Bachelor's degree with 5+ years of hands-on experience or Master's degree with 3+ years of hands-on experience or PhD in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Immunology, or a related field
