Job Description Summary

We are seeking a Laboratory Technician to support research on the role of nutrition in the regulation of muscle growth. Works with the Pl, Postdoctoral Fellows, and technical staff to investigate the effects of premature birth and dietary interventions on protein synthesis, intracellular signaling, and metabolism.

Responsibilities

Animal Research and Care

  • Conducts animal research studies using neonatal pig models.

  • Performs surgical procedures, animal husbandry, clinical care, and specimen collection.

Laboratory Testing and Research Procedures

  • Analyzes biological specimens using biochemical, cellular, and molecular methods to evaluate protein synthesis, nutrient signaling, and cell growth.

  • Performs cellular and molecular assays including: Western immunoblotting, Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays (ELISA), Real-Time Quantitative Reverse Transcription PCR (RT-qPCR).

Analyzing Biological Samples

  • Conducts biochemical assays using: Colorimetric methods, Fluorometric techniques, High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC).

Data Management and Documentation

  • Documents all experimental procedures accurately.

  • Analyzes, interprets, and summarizes experimental data.

Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)

  • Assists in the development and implementation of SOPs to enhance laboratory consistency and compliance.

Additional Duties

  • Performs other research-related or administrative tasks as assigned.

Qualifications

Required Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Three years of related experience.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of laboratory equipment, scientific apparatus, and computer equipment.

  • Ensures attention to detail.

  • Able to multitask and work cooperatively with others.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree and related experience.

  • Experience in laboratory and animal research.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Other Requirements:

  • Ability to lift or move light, moderate, and heavy objects. Ability to exert light force.

  • Work beyond normal office hours and/or work on weekends as needed.
