JOB SUMMARY The Deputy Lab Manager assists in the management and oversight of laboratory operations. This includes ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory standards, maintaining lab equipment, and supporting quality assurance processes. The Deputy Lab Manager collaborates with the lab manager and other stakeholders to implement best practices and ensure efficient and accurate lab operations.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS • Assist in managing the day-to-day operations of the laboratory, ensuring that all activities are conducted efficiently and according to established protocols.

• Ensure quality control measures are in place, conduct regular audits and inspections to maintain high standards.

• Ensure the laboratory complies with all relevant safety regulations, industry standards, and organizational policies. Implement safety protocols and monitor compliance.

• Review completed maintenance logs and calibration of lab equipment, ensuring that all instruments are in good working condition. Coordinate vendors for preventive maintenance when

• Manage lab supplies and inventory, ensuring adequate stock of essential materials and reagents. Coordinate with procurement to place orders as needed.

• Ensure accurate record-keeping and data management practices are followed. Support the implementation of lab information systems and maintain data integrity.

• Assist in supporting research projects, ensuring that lab resources are allocated effectively to meet research objectives.

• Collaborate with other departments, researchers, and stakeholders to ensure smooth communication and coordination of lab activities.

• Stay updated with the latest developments in laboratory technology, safety regulations, and best practices. Encourage ongoing training and certification for lab personnel.

• Conduct annual laboratory inventory

• Create the lab staff schedule and ensure adequate coverage

• Managing and approving time-cards.

• College of American Pathologists report review

• Ensure Quality Assurance Performance Improvement monitors are completed for manager review

Education/Relevant Experience: Bachelor’s degree and one (1) year of experience, or associate’s degree and three (3) years’ experience, or high school diploma or GED and five (5) years of progressively responsible experience.

This position requires post-secondary education and/or experience. Individuals must have applicable education and/or experience applying an extensive body of rules, procedures, or operations to perform a wide variety of interrelated or nonstandard procedural assignments and resolve a wide range of problems or to apply standard procedures in a technical field to perform such work as adapting equipment (requires consideration of the functioning characteristics of equipment), interpreting results of tests based on previous experience and observations (rather than directly reading instruments or other measures), or extracting information from various sources (requires considering the applicability of the information and the characteristics and quality of the sources).
