Scientist High-throughput Screening Automation

We are seeking a Scientist HTS Automation Engineer to join our Receptor Based Discovery team to drive the implementation and improvement of our cutting-edge receptor screening platforms and to manage the daily operations and data acquisition for the high-throughput lab. Your Key Responsibilities:
- Design, plan, coordinate, direct, and perform HTS workflows using stand-alone and integrated robotic liquid handler platforms.
- Ensure development, optimization, and implementation of automated workflows including data management to deliver on agreed project objectives.
- Manage two lab automation technicians and oversee scheduling of the integrated screening system.
- Interface directly with internal stakeholders to achieve scientific goals, translate requests into efficient and robust automated processes, present and interpret screening data, and collaborate with external stakeholders in multidisciplinary project teams.
- Maintain the integrated automated system and implement software/hardware improvements to existing and new equipment accordingly.
- Investigate and troubleshoot manufacturing deviations and identify and implement process improvements.
- Be an ambassador for lab automation and train colleagues in the automated processes.
- Work together with the manager of the Discovery team to plan out mid- and long-term strategies for developing our people and our capabilities.
This position is eligible for the dsm-firmenich Hybrid Working model, spending 4 days per week in the New York office and the balance of the work week in a home office.

You Bring:
- A BS in Biotechnology, Bioengineering, or related field with 6+ years of experience with industry R&D laboratory automation, MS in Biotechnology, Bioengineering, Chemical Biology or related field with 4+ years of experience with industry R&D laboratory automation, or a PhD in Biotechnology, Bioengineering, Chemical Biology, or related field with a minimum 2+ years of experience in industry R&D laboratory automation and screening.
- A track record of developing and optimizing automation processes in the context of high throughput workflows handling chemical libraries, preferably volatile small molecules. Experience in endpoint or kinetic plate-based readouts of different technologies (fluorescence, luminescence, absorbance) is a plus.
- Highly competitive candidates will have strong expertise with a range of liquid handlers (HighRes Prime, Hamilton, Tecan, Biomek), programming methods, scheduling software (Cellario), and/or experience in system integration (HighRes Biosolution, BioSero) demonstrating increase screening efficiency and quality.
- Core technical competencies in chemical biology, biochemistry, and automation. Knowledge in molecular and/or cellular biology and experience with mammalian cell-based assays is a plus.
- Strong expertise in data analysis methodologies and data management programs including but not limited to querying SQL databases and programming in Python, R, or C#. Advantageous experiences include advanced biostatistics, bioinformatics and/or cheminformatics.
- A proactive mindset for improving workflows and processes with a solution-oriented, result driven, and hands-on approach.
- Ability to coordinate multiple on-going projects, excellent communication skills and a proactive initiative in connecting to team members in a cross-disciplinary matrix environment.
The salary or hourly wage scale provided reflects the pay range dsm-firmenich expects to pay the successful candidate for the position. Individual pay offered will be based on the applicant's job-related skills, experience, relevant education, or training, and primary work location. This position is also eligible for bonuses and benefits, which are not included in the pay scale provided. Salary $97,000-$139,000.
