Job Description

As a solid-state chemist, you will be a member of the Solid Form Science team within the Materials & Biophysical Characterization department, where you will contribute insights and conduct experiments focused on physical form screening and solid form selection for different programs within our portfolio. It will include supporting early-stage research projects aimed at delivering development candidates.

Solid-State/Physical Chemist responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Physical form screening with established protocols to identify novel crystalline forms including polymorphs, solvates, salts and cocrystals under the guidance of a scientific supervisor.
  • Physical measurements on samples to support chemical process and pharmaceutical formulation development.
  • Independently execute laboratory experiments and present results in a contextualized manner.
  • Data processing, interpretation and documentation.
  • Maintain stock salt solutions, solvents and chemicals up to date.
  • Calibration and routine maintenance of common laboratory equipment.
  • Ensure a safe and organized laboratory environment by following all applicable safety protocols and guidelines.
Qualifications

Basic Minimum Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's or Masters Degree in Materials Science, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Pharmaceutical Sciences or other related discipline with a minimum of 2-4 years of industry experience

The ideal candidate would possess:

  • Experience with physical characterization techniques such as X-ray powder diffraction, thermal analysis (differential scanning calorimetry and thermogravimetric analysis), vibrational spectroscopy (FTIR, Raman), dynamic vapor sorption analysis and/or optical microscopy.
  • Experience in solid form screening approaches and materials characterization.
  • Experience with powder characterization techniques to measure particle size, powder flow, and surface area.
  • Experience with laboratory automation tools.
  • Experience with Microsoft office products (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), and data visualization.
  • Capable of multitasking and self-motivated, with a strong drive to act with urgency, particularly when faced with complex challenges or time-sensitive situations.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to perform duties and responsibilities with minimal supervision
Additional Information

This position is Full-Time, Monday - Friday, 8 a.m. - 5:00 p.m . with overtime as needed. Candidates currently living within a commutable distance of Rahway NJ are encouraged to apply. The compensation range for this role is between $24-29/hr and is based on experience.
