Job Summary
Successful applicant will perform research on nanogeoscience as related to mineral deposits, rare earth recovery, and atmospheric particles. The position involves analysis of nanoparticles in environmental samples using single-particle ICP-MS, field flow fractionation, electron microscopy, and single particle optical sensing. The applicant will be required to travel to field sites to collect sediment and water samples.
Primary Responsibilities
Characterize nanoparticles using single particle ICP-QMS and ICP-TOF-MS.
Collect field samples for mineral exploration and resource recovery from mine wastes
Collect and interpret data and submit publications to scientific journals
Additional Responsibilities
Performs other duties as assigned
Supports the analysis of samples by ICP-OES
Manages graduate students
Minimum Qualifications
PhD in related field
Research in nanogeoscience using ICP-MS in single particle mode to characterize nanoparticles
Use of field flow fractionation to examine nanominerals
Experience in collecting and interpreting XANES and XAFS data
Operate and maintain ICP-MS and ICP-OES instrumentation
Ability to perform field sampling of surface waters

Demonstrated PhD-level research abilities

Annual Rate and Benefits
$70,000 - $73,000 annual pay rate
Mines takes into consideration a combination of candidate's education, training and experience as well as the position's scope and complexity, the discretion and latitude required in the role, work location, and external market and internal value when determining a salary level for potential new employees.
