The University of Alabama at Birmingham, Med - Pulmonary/Allergy/Critical Care, is seeking a dedicated and skilled Research Scientist to join their team
General Responsibilities
A Research Scientist conducts advanced studies in a specific field, applying specialized knowledge to drive research projects. This role involves data analysis, interpretation of results, and contribution to scientific literature. The position requires collaboration with peers and adherence to established protocols, with moderate autonomy and responsibility for project deliverables. Depending on the research focus, this position may involve research collaborator contact, research animal contact, and/or specimens.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
Lead research projects in the areas of cystic fibrosis and airway stem cells and write research manuscripts.
Assist the principal investigator in securing research funding.
Perform daily laboratory maintenance and maintain communication with EHS and IACUC staff. Supervise graduate students and other junior research staff.
Designs and carries out experiments, data collection.
Data analysis, communicate data analysis through reports and publications.
Help PI secure funding for research by writing grants.
Supervise junior staff and students in research projects.
Laboratory maintenance, EHS communication, and IACUC communication.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Salary Range \: $ 70,425 - $ 91,550
Qualifications
Doctorate degree in a related field and one (1) year of related experience OR Master s degree in a related field and three (3) years of related experience OR Bachelor s degree in a related field and five (5) years of related experience required. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.
Preferences
Ph.D. in a field of molecular biology, cell biology, or medicine.
At least three years of progressively independent postgraduate research experience in areas of cell biology, pharmacology, molecular biology, transgenic animals (Cre/Loxp system), and single-cell genomics.
Demonstrated oral and written communication/interpersonal skills, data management and analysis, and presentation of data.
Multiple first-author publications (articles and reviews) are preferred.
