PURPOSE
The Conrad Blucher Institute for Surveying and Science at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi (TAMU-CC) is inviting applications for a postdoctoral research associate to advance the state of the art in Artificial Intelligence (AI) approaches to quality control of coastal water level observations in a robust and time efficient way. The position is for one year, and it is renewable for an additional 9 months based on performance. This position offers the opportunity to work with a dynamic team of scientists and researchers in a collaborative environment. The candidate must be able to start by October 1st, 2025, be eligible to obtain access to NOAA Computational Facilities. This position is contingent on extramural funding.

The Conrad Blucher Institute for Surveying and Science (CBI) at Texas A&M University Corpus Christi has a sense of belonging research environment utilizing geospatial science to support data driven decision making. The institutes research laboratories develop innovative solutions informed by precise measurements honoring the legacy of the Blucher family and their commitment to surveying and science. CBI pushes the boundaries of geospatial science by applying cutting edge technologies to map, measure, collect and manage big data used to predict our physical environment.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Development and Dissemination of New AI Based Methods : 50%
Develop, test, and demonstrate an optimal AI approach to quality control of water level observations collected by tide gauges.
Develop new AI based methods for bad data detection, gap filling, assessing and documenting performance of the new methods.
Draft articles describing new AI based methods for publication in peer reviewed journals.
Programming : 30%
Create a well-documented code to form the basis for future operational models for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and for the broader environmental community including the Gulf of Mexico Coastal Ocean Observing System.
Teamwork, Collaboration, and Presentations : 20%
Recurring travel to the Center for Operational Oceanographic Products and Services (CO-OPS) at NOAA is expected annually.
Collaboration with Dr. Jorge Brenner, Director of the GCOOS.
Collaboration with other academic and federal partners.
Deliver presentations at CO-OPS, GCOOS and other scientific meetings.
Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Ph.D. in computer science, or closely related field.
Four (4) years of related work experience.
Experience developing machine learning methods.
Experience writing, submitting, and editing peer reviewed publications.
Expertise in computer science applications for Artificial Intelligence.
Strong demonstrated programming skills including Python or other similar languages.
Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and deliver results in a timely manner.
Assess and prioritize multiple tasks and projects in a fast-paced office environment, meeting deadlines and project requirements.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Excellent project management and organization skills.
Experienced in workflow design and technical documentation.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Experience developing AI methods for environmental data sets including working with deep learning algorithms, environmental time series and anomaly detection.
SALARY: Up to $6,250.00 Monthly ($75,000.00 Annual, Approximately)
NOTE
- This is a grant funded position with continued employment contingent upon available funding. The contract may be renewed or extended based on performance for an additional nine (9) months.
