The Research Associate I plays a key administrative role in the daily operations of the Getty Scholars Program, which offers fellowships to international scholars. This role entails support of the full cycle of scholar recruitment, including outreach, the yearly theme launch and the application, selection, and recruitment processes, working closely with other staff members in the department, in the Getty Research Institute, and with colleagues across all four programs of the J. Paul Getty Trust. This role also entails developing a comprehensive communication strategy, in conjunction with the GRI Digital Media and Content Strategy department, including managing departmental web content, the scholar research dossier, and other presentation materials produced by the program. This position may entail handling some issues that arise in relation to the scholars whose offices are located at the Getty Villa in Malibu.
Major Job Responsibilities- Handles administrative and research needs of Getty Center and Villa Scholars
- Assists in the realization of programmatic projects
- May assist in the coordination of scholar application review and selection committee
- May organize and/or provide support for tours for scholars, classes, and other guests at Getty Center, Getty Villa, and across the Los Angeles region
- May coordinate scholar year theme development process including production and dissemination of promotional materials
- May assist with the coordination of the annual consortium seminar, run by the Consortium Scholar
- May manage and develop scholar research dossier
- Fosters communication and collaboration across departments and programs of the Trust
- May represent programs initiatives and projects at public and private symposia, panels, workshops, and seminars, locally, nationally, and internationally
- Bachelors degree in art history or related field; Masters degree preferred
- 0-2 years experience working in an academic environment or scholarly research setting (education may be considered)
- Working knowledge in at least one foreign language preferred
- Knowledge of the arts and cultural heritage scholarly field is required
- Administrative experience appropriate to the listed responsibilities; experience managing, writing, or editing web content, including social media, preferred
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Advanced research writing and editorial skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects in a timely manner
- Ability to build relationships and work on teams
- Ability to set and meet deadlines for oneself
- Ability to work in partnership with other staff members and to cross-train in related skillset
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office is required; ability to work with Adobe and Google software suites and Airtable is highly desirable
- Ability to manage institutional data or willingness to learn
