Description:

The Chemist plays a key role in the ability of Orion's Carlstadt, NJ lab to complete its mission in support of the sales and marketing functions.

Key Duties:

  • Troubleshoot, optimize, and/or developing pigment dispersion formulations for the coatings and inks industries.
  • Evaluate the physical dispersion process of organic pigments with some analytical instrumentation testing.
  • Prepare pigment dispersions and perform applications testing to optimize the color performance, processing, and stability of the dispersions.
  • Record detailed observations in a lab notebook, organize data into reports and presentations, and maintain a clean lab environment by following established chemical hygiene procedures.

Qualifications:

  • A bachelor's degree in chemistry or other physical science is strongly preferred; experience as described in this posting may be substituted for the degree.

  • At least five years of experience as a chemist in a coatings or inks industrial chemical laboratory.

  • At least five years of experience testing, analyzing, and evaluating the physical properties of dispersions are essential for success in this role.

  • The ability to use common laboratory equipment such as media mills, paint shakers, mixers, viscometers, and other apparatuses is required.

  • Proficiency in English and the ability to write reports, memoranda, and to compose other technical documents is required.
