Salary Range
$62,200.00 - $91,900.00
Overview The Data Mining (DM) Lab at Yale University lead by Dr. Samah Fodeh has an opening for a research assistant to participate in a series of projects that focus on leveraging healthcare data to improve patient care. The work spans analysis of structured and unstructured data in the electronic health record (EHR) as well as MyChart data. The position requires strong programming skills and familiarity with large language models (LLMs). The position will support projects focused on clinical natural language processing, predictive modeling, and real-world healthcare applications. The position is open for a driven individual with a master's degree in data science, computer science, biomedical informatics, or a similar background with some experience working with large datasets. Prior experience with healthcare is not required but will be helpful. The ideal candidate will have an interest in broad career development in a dynamic environment that allows them to develop as a healthcare data scientist.Responsibilities will also include participating in the design, implementation, and maintenance of data pipelines and leading/assisting in building algorithms for language processing and deep learning with close collaboration from the study team.While programming experience with python and/or R is required, experience with one or more of the following skills will be an asset: large tabular data with python/R, applications in python with PyTorch/Huggingface/SpaCy, applications of computer vision, image analysis, and text analysis in Tensorflow or PyTorch, large language models such as Llama and GPT models. Required Skills and Abilities 1. Demonstrated expertise working with Linux, Python, and Java. 2. Ability to work with large structured and unstructured datasets, and GPU-accelerated computing. Proven experience with Large Language Models. 3. Sound background in theoretical and applied machine learning/deep learning with applications to language, signals, or images. 4. Demonstrated strong ability to communicate technical ideas and results to non-technical customers in written and verbal formats. 5. Strong organizational, time management, and leadership skills. Ability and willingness to work in a highly collaborative team environment and matrixed organization.
Principal Responsibilities
- Recommends the design and implementation of procedures and protocols under the direction of a higher-level authority. 2. Investigates, analyzes, and reaches preliminary scientific conclusions related to research planning. 3. Ensures data results are compiled, analyzed, and presented properly. 4. Analyzes, develops and interprets scientific results. Maintains clear documentation of results. Prepares scientific reports and papers for research proposals and published reports. 5. Performs independent research and laboratory techniques and participates in experimental research planning. 6. Interacts with internal contacts including the PI, research assistants, graduate students, Radiation Safety and Biological Safety officers, and Animal Care personnel to discuss and evaluate research results and to ensure the smooth and safe operation of the laboratory. 7. Interacts with external contacts such as researchers at other institutions, staff at biotechnology and reagents companies to consult on research methods and to keep abreast of product information and developments. 8. May perform other duties as assigned. Required Education and Experience Master's Degree in a scientific discipline and one year experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
