JOB SUMMARY
The Chemical Technician's responsibilities will be testing coal combustion by-products and related products. These tests will include atomic absorption spectroscopy, x-ray fluorescence, carbon analysis, moisture analysis, specific gravity by helium pycnometer and various bench chemistry tests such as titrations and particle size analysis. All tests will be performed following ASTM and MTRF standard operating procedures and other job assignments as determined by the management of the MTRF.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Comply with EcoMaterial Safety Policies and Procedures
- Ability to learn instrument applications
- Work with Lab Director, Lab Supervisor and Research Manager to coordinate daily activities for chemical testing
- Ensure testing is performed on a timely basis and that all ASTM procedures and SOP's are strictly followed
- Other duties and responsibilities related to the nature of the job assigned on a temporary or permanent basis as needed
- Regular attendance, timeliness and scheduling flexibility
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
- Strong math skills
- Must possess sound, fundamental lab techniques and demonstrate good organizational skills
- Strong attention to detail
- Strong critical thinking and problem solving skills.
- Ability to multitask
- Self-motivated
- Work well without supervision
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
The employee should have the following:
- Associates or Bachelors (preferred) in Chemistry or other science or equivalent work experience
- 0 - 2 years' experience in functional role
ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT
The employee should possess the ability to:
- Prolong standing or in stationary position
- Complete repetitive movements such as typing
- Be exposed to sounds or noise levels that maybe uncomfortable
- Complete repetitive movements
- Wear all required personal protective equipment (hearing, vision and hardhat protection)
- Lift/move/transport items up to 50 pounds
- Ability to move or traverse about the facilities
- Must be able to ascend/descend stairs or ladders
- Ability to work around dust, chemicals, and other substances, and in various environmental conditions
