We are seeking an experienced and visionary Analytical Science Lead to lead the development and execution of robust analytical strategies for characterizing biomaterials cultivated in plant cell culture systems. In this pivotal role, you will serve as the strategic and technical lead for analytical development, guiding a growing team in establishing and scaling world-class capabilities across metabolite profiling, compound characterization, and process analytics to ensure the quality, consistency, and scalability.

This is a hands-on, senior-level position ideal for a scientifically curious leader with deep technical fluency in analytical chemistry, method development, and data interpretation. Your work will directly influence R&D direction, production efficiency, and product quality, helping us accelerate the transition to sustainable biomaterials grown from cells.

RESPONSABILITIES

Scientific Leadership & Strategy

  • Serve as the technical lead in analytical development across our R&D and production teams.
  • Develop fit-for-purpose testing strategies to support R&D, process development and quality assurance.
  • Design and oversee high-impact experiments that enable accurate quantification and structural analysis of biomolecules (eg, proteins, polysaccharides, small molecules).
  • Guide scientific direction through hypothesis-driven experimentation and data-informed insights.
  • Provide strategic inputs into scale-up, regulatory, and commercialization efforts from an analytical science perspective.
  • Lead and develop a high-performing analytical team, including junior scientists and research associates.
  • Train staff on advanced analytical techniques and experimental design, fostering a learning oriented culture.
  • Provide expert input on experimental planning, execution, and troubleshooting

Process Optimization & Innovation

  • Drive innovation in analytical workflows, improving sensitivity, speed, and reproducibility of data acquisition.
  • Lead cross-functional process improvement initiatives, collaborating with R&D and process development and production teams.
  • Identify and implement scalable, cost-effective analytical solutions to support rapid iteration and commercialization.
  • Establish and maintain documentation and compliance workflows in line with food safety standards and certification frameworks as required
  • Champion robust data analysis practices, including development of novel models and tools for interpretation.
  • Translate complex datasets into actionable insights for R&D and business decision-making.
  • Proactively monitor scientific trends and translate them into strategic opportunities.

Lab Excellence & Compliance

  • Lead best practices in lab operations, from safety protocols to equipment selection and usage.
  • Provide hands-on and advisory support for waste management, PPE adherence, and lab safety training.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required Qualifications

  • PhD in Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering, Biotechnology, or a related scientific discipline.
  • 8+ years of industry experience in analytical method development, including 3+ years in a leadership role.
  • Proven expertise in analytical techniques such as HPLC/UPLC, UV-Vis, FTIR, and spectroscopy, with a focus on complex biological systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and implement compliant analytical workflows aligned with food safety, quality, and regulatory standards.
  • Hands-on experience in biomolecular and material characterization relevant to fermentation based or cell-derived products.
  • Familiarity with physical and chemical analysis methods such as GPC/SEC, rheology, XRD, and TGA, particularly for fiber and cellulosic material applications.
  • Excellent leadership, project management, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong commitment to sustainability, safety, and scientific rigor.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience in cellular agriculture, synthetic biology, or early-stage biotechnology environments.
  • Background in metabolite profiling, plant cell culture analytics, or biologics characterization.
  • Knowledge of LC-MS and GC-MS techniques is a plus, especially for cocoa-related metabolite analysis.
  • Familiarity with textile-relevant material science assays, including mechanical and rheological testing of natural or engineered fibers.
  • Understanding of regulatory frameworks in the food, textile, or biomaterials industries.
  • Visionary leadership with hands-on technical fluency.
  • Strong mentorship mindset with a passion for developing scientific talent.
  • Data-driven and systems thinker with an eye for emerging technologies.
  • Collaborative, strategic, and proactive in cross-functional settings.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication for both technical and non-technical audiences.
